Harwich crashes, fire; Man charged after Sandwich bar fight

A woman was injured after her SUV rolled over and ended upright in the woods on Route 6 in Harwich.
HARWICH - One person was taken to Cape Cod Hospital after a single-vehicle crash on Route 6 between exits 10 and 11.

A Mitsubishi Montero rolled over and wound right side up in the woods.

The driver, 64-year-old Jacqueline McGuire of Dennis, was taken to CCH with injuries that were not life threatening.

State Police are investigating the crash.

Second Harwich crash leads to drug bust
HARWICH
-Thursday evening at approximately 11:30 p.m., Officers of the Harwich Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Long Pond Drive and Oak Street in Harwich for a report of a single car crash. It was reported that a vehicle had struck a tree and was attempting to drive away. Officer's Paul Boorack and Neil Nolan arrived on location and located a Chevy Impala with heavy front end damage. While investigating the accident the officers detected an odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Detective Bob Brackett assisted with a search of the vehicle as well as the surrounding area and was able to locate eight ziplock sandwich baggies containing marijuana along with a digital scale. The marijuana and the scale were located under a bush near the vehicle.

Police say information obtained at the scene confirmed that the marijuana had been placed there by the operator of the vehicle. The operator of the motor vehicle was identified as 18-year old Brendan Sullivan of Harwich.

Mr Sullivan was placed under arrest and transported to the Harwich Police Department for processing. He was charged with Possession of a class "D" substance (Marijuana) with the intent to distribute as well as Negligent Operation of a motor vehicle, Speeding and Marked Lanes.

Fire damages Harwich home

HARWICH - Fire damaged a home at 179 Division Street in Harwich about 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening. The fire started in a fireplace chimney and extended into the wall on the second floor. No one was home at the time and no injuries were reported. Firefighters credit an alarm system with alerting them to the fire. A dog and cat at the house were not injured. Man arrested after bar fight in Sandwich
SANDWICH
- A local man was arrested after allegedly striking a bar manager over the head with a folding table. The incident happened Wednesday evening about 9:30 p.m. at the Sandwich Taverna. 23-year-old Derek M. Hill was found by police walking a short distance away on Cotuit Road and was charged with assualt and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. The victim was treated at the scene and released.
