Convicted sex offender arrested in Provincetown

PROVINCETOWN - A 58-year-old Boston man was arrested early Saturday and charged with several sex offenses including rape of a child after park rangers reportedly discovered him having sex with a 15-year-old girl in a car in an undisclosed location in Provincetown.

The incident, according to a Provincetown police release, occurred around 2 a.m. Saturday morning. Richard David Jemmott of Boston is a convicted sex offender, according to police.

Jemmott was placed under arrest and transported to the Provincetown Police Station where he was charged with two counts of assault and battery on a person 14 or over, rape of a child, two counts of statutory rape of a child, subsequent offense and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

He was held without bail and transported to the Barnstable County House of Correction until his arraignment in Orleans District Court on Monday.  During his arraignment, Jemmott was ordered held on $10,000 bail, according to police.

Police did not indicate why Jemmott was in Provincetown or how he knew the unidentified girl.
