Police search for suspect in early morning scuffle

MASHPEE - Mashpee police are searching for a suspect in an early morning altercation on Coombs Lane. Around 2:44 a.m. Thursday morning, officers responded to the report of shots fired at 14 Coombs Lane in Mashpee, according to a Mashpee police release.

Officers arrived to find two victims of an alleged scuffle that took place prior to the shots being fired. The residents told the officer that they were confronted by a masked man in their driveway upon returning home.

The male victim told police he was attacked by the masked assailant who allegedly discharged two rounds from his weapon during a physical struggle. The assailant reportedly fled the scene following the altercation. Neither victim was injured, police said.

Police did not indicate if the victims knew the assailant or the motive for the attack.

Mashpee police are searching for the suspect who was reportedly armed with a handgun. According to the victims, the suspect may have not been alone.

Police reportedly recovered evidence from the scene and are investigating the incident. Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect(s) is asked to call Det. Sgt.
