Two Sandwich teens busted for collecting bogus donations

Police: Pair did not represent the Sandwich High School Student Council

SANDWICH - Two Sandwich teens have been charged with larceny under $250 following an incident in the Greenville Drive neighborhood of Forestdale Sunday. According to a Sandwich police release, the suspects went door to door in the neighborhood soliciting donations for the Sandwich High School Student Council.

Officers were dispatched to the neighborhood after a resident called to report that the pair seemed "out of place". Upon searching the neighborhood, officers found a donation box labeled "Sandwich High Student Council - Thank You For Your Donation", police said.

After interviewing Greenville Drive residents and the two suspects, officers determined that $30 was given to the bogus collection. Police have yet to interview all residents who gave the two money and ask anyone who donated money to the pair to call Officer Dan Perkins at 508-888-3343, ext. 341.

Police did not identified the suspects or indicate if they are even students at Sandwich High School. Criminal applications for both have been filed with Barnstable District Court and a hearing date is pending, police said.
