Driver crosses center lane, striking stopped car on Setucket

DENNIS - A head-on crash on Setucket Road in Dennis Saturday morning sent four people to the hospital. According to a Dennis police release, officers responded to a crash near 312 Setucket Road just before 10 a.m.

An investigation at the scene revealed that  69-year-old Trude Maloney of Dennis was driving her 2007 Toyota Matrix west when she crossed over the center line and struck a 2003 Ford Taurus in the opposite lane driven by 83-year-old Rita Taylor of Dennis.

Mrs. Taylor told officers she saw the Matrix heading into her lane and pulled to the side of the road. The Taurus was stopped when it was struck by the Matrix.

Mrs. Maloney was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital by a MedFlight helicopter team with serious injuries, police said.

Mrs. Taylor and her two grandsons (5-years-old and 12-years-old) were transported to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis by ambulance with non life-threatening injuries, according to police.

What caused Mrs. Maloney to drive into the oncoming lane is currently unknown. Charges are pending an interview with Mrs. Maloney, police said.
