Seasonal Sunday hours at the Sandwich library start today

Library will be open October 5 through April 26 from noon to 4 p.m.

With the official start of fall comes the return of seasonal Sunday hours at the Sandwich Public Library. Starting today, October 5, the library will be open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. With the exception of a few holidays, Sunday hours will continue through April 26, 2015, according to Sandwich Public Library Trustee Jennifer Tickell.

In 2010, budget cuts threatened the elimination of Sunday hours--a popular time for Sandwich residents to take advantage of the library's many services. The Friends of the Sandwich Public Library stepped in and through a series of fundraisers, managed to restore Sunday hours. From October 2010 to March 2011, according to the library, 10,953 visits occurred on open Sundays.

Although the Friends and Trustees of the Sandwich Public Library will fund any of this season's Sundays without a sponsor, local Sandwich businesses, organizations, families and individuals are encouraged to "Sponsor a Sunday". See the list of previous Sunday sponsors here.

Sign up for a Sandwich Public Library card online here or visit the library at 142 Main Street in Sandwich.
