Barnstable Public Schools present "Supporting Worried Children" program Nov. 19

Capewide forum is open to all parents and professionals

Adults as well as children are bombarded every day with stories and images that provoke anxiety. The Barnstable Public Schools will host "Supporting Worried Children", a program for all parents and professionals on Wednesday, November 19 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Barnstable Intermediate School, 895 Falmouth Road in Hyannis.

The free forum is presented by Sherianna Boyle, the author of "Powered by Me for Educators", "The Everything Parents Guide to Overcoming Childhood Anxiety" and "The Four Gifts of Anxiety".

Boyle, an adjunct psychology professor and former school psychologist, will address anxiety in children and teach parents and educators how to work through what Boyle calls "the worry cycle". Boyle, along with Cindy Horgan, hosts the local television series "Thriving from Anxiety"

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), one in eight children are affected by anxiety disorders. Although anxiety is a normal reaction to stress, excessive anxiety, even in children and adolescents can become debilitating, according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIH).

The forum is open to all Cape residents and registration is not required. PDPs are available for teachers. Audience members may enter to win the door prize drawing for a new Samsung Galaxy Tablet.
