Portion of Route 6 eastbound down to one lane Thursday

Overnight paving work continues from Exit 2 to Barnstable town line

One lane of Route 6 eastbound, closed Wednesday night for roadwork, will remain closed through most of Thursday. According to a MassDOT release, the right travel lane on Route 6 between Exit 2 in Sandwich all the way to the Barnstable town line was closed Wednesday night at 7 p.m. to accommodate final paving of the stretch of road.

The lane closure will remain in effect until 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Friday's forecast has ruled out paving for that day. The project will instead be completed Thursday during the day. Paving requires dry air and a minimum temperature to cure, according to MassDOT.

Additional paving on ramps along Route 6 in the area will be done at a later date.

Motorists should expect delays and slowdowns through the roadwork area. Speeds will also be reduced through the work area.
