BARNSTABLE - United States Coast Guard crews and Barnstable firefighters searched for a possible missing boater Monday morning. The air and water search began around 8:30 a.m. approximately four nautical miles off Sandy Neck in Barnstable.

Rescuers aboard a Barnstable Fire Dept. boat, Coast Guard vessels and a Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter were on the water for a couple hours before the search was called off.

According to Barnstable Fire Deput Chief Peter Burke Jr., the Coast Guard initiated the search after a sunfish was found adrift in the area Monday morning. Massachusetts Environmental Police also aided in the search.
