Role of Local Cable Advisory Commissions

Letter by Ernie Hyde, Falmouth

Dear Sir.Madam,

As the incoming Chairman of the Falmouth Cable Advisory Committee, thank you for the article about Comcast which asks if Comcast is the Most Hated Company on Cape Cod.  Although I do not claim to have the data to support the tenets of the article, my prediction is yes, at least, one of the most hated companies on Cape Cod.  I have experienced multiple issues with the internet connection dropping intermittently and the level of service fluctuating dramatically.  As the service continues to degrade, their prices continue to rise.  Falmouth is a regulated town due to a ruling by the FCC that it is a monopoly, but this only applies to basic cable which provides few channels.  Our choices here are Comcast or satellite. Of course, satellite does not provide internet services.

I wanted to bring the Advisory Committee to your attention as I believe most towns have such a committee.  We not only negotiate contracts with Comcast for the Town of Falmouth, we are always available to take input or complaints from our residents regarding the lack of service and poor service.  We can be reached by email at [email protected] or by phone at the Town's main number 508-548-7611 for any cable customers in Falmouth with such complaints.

Again, thank you for a much needed article.
