Letter: Clarifying Position on Cape Tech Expansion

From County Commissioner Ron Beaty

Letter to the Editor from County Commissioner Ron Beaty:

With regard to the proposed Cape Cod Tech school building project referendum in October, and the separate (but related) September 19th Town of Barnstable Special Town Election - Proposition 2 1/2 Debt Exclusion Ballot Question, it appears that a clarification needs to be emphasized on my part.

I do NOT oppose the school’s plans – in fact I strongly support them – but I do oppose the Town of Barnstable's choice of funding mechanism on its end  (the Proposition 2 1/2 Debt Exclusion).

When we are presented with the October Voter Referendum Question on whether or not to construct the new Cape Cod Tech school building, I shall be voting in favor of it, and urging others to do so as well.

I am a Cape Cod Tech alumnus, have toured the school, and met with Robert Sanborn, the Superintendent, and discussed the building project.

I have a good overall grasp of the issue and proposal. That part of the situation, I strongly support.

Ron Beaty

Barnstable County Commissioner
