Letter to the Editor: Marijuana in Bourne, Methadone in Wareham

from Don C. Hayward of Bourne

Some thing’s Never Change

As most of the towns on our Peninsular recognize the value of utilizing zoning and by-laws constructively for enhancement of the tourist activity that has been gifted to our geographic area, Bourne has decided on the opposite tack. It’s Howdy Doody  Time again.

Bourne instead, has decided by a rushed, chaotic and one could say mob ruled town meeting, not to ban yet another mind altering substance called marijuana. Sorry Haven Center, I call it weed, pot while you call it  by the more benign term, cannabis.

The Bourne Board of Health sends the representative to the Cannabis Control Committee a Mr. Andrews, a candidate for selectman, in a 1960’s tie dye tee shirt for a public meeting during such time no pros and cons on marijuana use were allowed. It’s called totalitarian  suppression of dissent in North Korea.

Bourne and Wareham, as geographic gateways to our tourist mecca, will now have the dubious distinction of having become gateways for methadone in Wareham and marijuana in Bourne. A double hit for drug addicts and their attendant contributions to the social fabric.

Do you think that Bourne and Wareham know something that the majority of the Cape does not know, or is the Brockton/Fall River/New Bedford  emulation model more attractive???
