From Wareham Department of Natural Resources...

This evening, the Harbormaster Office at the Onset Pier received a VHF call on Channel 16 of a sailing vessel with a fire on board in the Point Independence Yacht Club mooring field. The occupants of the vessel were able to extinguish the flames using 2 fire extinguishers. Wareham Natural Resources Marine Unit 1 was dispatched as well as Onset Fire M-1

Onset Firefighters checked the vessel thoroughly with thermal imagers to see if the fire had spread. Thankfully, the fire was contained to the stove area.

Wareham Fire M-4 was dispatched to the location as well, however they returned to port after confirmation of the vessels on scene confirming the fire was extinguished.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Onset and Wareham Fire Departments for their assistance. True force multipliers in the maritime domain. Boaters in and around Wareham should have peace of mind knowing that if, in the event of a marine emergency, help will be there quickly.

TowBoatUS Cape Cod/Plymouth also assisted at the scene.

Check your fire extinguishers!
