YMCA Cape Cod, with the help of funding from Cape Cod Healthcare Community Benefit, will host its first-ever Livestrong® at the YMCA Retreat at Camp Lyndon in Sandwich from September 14 – 16, 2018.
The scenic 79-acre camp situated on Lawrence Pond in Sandwich offers beach, woods, fields and rustic features to re-connect with nature. Participants will relax, have fun, and enjoy themselves. Attendees are welcome to join all or just some of the activities and find time to enjoy a beach chair and a book.
The retreat is themed to support Livestrong® program participants, the entire weekend free of charge to all Cape Cod residents who have battled cancer. Caregivers, regardless of participation in the Livestrong® program or with the YMCA are also invited to join the retreat. For non-Cape Cod residents, the cost is $100 for the weekend and $150 for caregivers. The weekend includes meals, activities, and accommodations if participants wish to stay in shared rustic cabins. Those who register are not required to stay overnight.
Livestrong® at the YMCA is a 12-week program for cancer survivors. The program is led by certified Lifestyle Coaches and meets twice a week. The group consists of about 12 survivors who are able to support each other and speak about their similar experiences. The coaches lead the participants through a variety of health and wellness activities, geared toward improving their strength, balance, and self-confidence. The program is free and includes a free YMCA membership during the time of the program. The goal is to improve the health of the participants and get them involved into the YMCA community.
