From the Cape Cod National Seashore:
This morning, park staff checked on the Marconi Beach stairs and discovered they are damaged beyond repair. The last high tide cycle resulted in the stairs sloughing away from the bluff completely disconnecting from the top with significant damage at the base and to other features of the structure. Maintaining beach access along the ever-changing coast of Cape Cod presents some very unique challenges. We are faced with a future of more frequent and powerful storms, and a steadily increasing rate of erosion along much of the shoreline. Park management is currently looking into what options are available to continue to provide public access to beaches in ways that are financially sustainable, environmentally sensitive, and structurally feasible. Marconi Beach Road, and the parking lot at Marconi Beach will remain closed until further notice.
