Letter - Criticizes Senator Cyr's Position on Safe Injection Sites, Sanctuary State

from Adam Lange

Letter to the Editor:

Cape and Island voters will be making an important decision that will shape our future in November. Do you want to maintain the unique communities we grew up in for our kids and grandkids? Or subscribe to Senator Cyr's radical vision that would establish “safe injection” sites, and broad restrictions on local law enforcement?

The cryptically named “Safe Communities Act” that Senator Cyr has obsessively pursued would end Barnstable County Sheriff James Cummings 287(g) agreement with our federal government. In July alone the program prevented 7 illegal aliens with serious violent charges ranging from “Armed Assault to Murder”, to “Indecent Assault on a Child” from re-entering our community. In August our sheriff reported again that 13 illegal aliens who had committed serious crimes in our local community were turned over to ICE.

I urge voters to go to our Barnstable Sheriff's website to better understand what Senator Cyr would expose our families to.

Cyr's vision of a sanctuary state would increase the burden on taxpayers, erode public safety and conflict with the 1986 Immigration Reform & Control Act which made it unlawful to employ illegal aliens. Is this what we want to leave for our kids?
