On March 1 and 2 Cape Cod’s premier string quartet, Quartett Giocosa, will be joined by international prize-winning pianist Irina Kotlyar for an evening of classical masterworks.  The program, presented on Friday March 1 at the Wellfleet Preservation Hall and on Saturday March 2 at the Federated Church of Hyannis will feature Schumann’s Piano Quintet Opus 44 and Dvorak’s Piano Quintet #2.

These two important pieces, both infamous crowd favorites, function (along with the Brahms and Shostakovich Quintets) as the pillars upon which classical piano quintet literature rests.  They are presented by the Cape’s new string quartet, Quartett Giocosa, who are now in their second season together.  The four musicians of the quartet, Heather Goodchild Wade and Irina Fainkichen, violins, Irina Naryshkova, viola, and Elizabeth Schultze, ‘cello, are all members of the Cape Symphony, and the quartet’s first season met with great success and acclaim.  Jung-Ho Pak, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Cape Symphony said of the quartet, “Giocosa is the perfect name for this group of artists who believe that joy is the most powerful emotion to affect the human spirit.  As longtime members of the Cape Symphony, I am proud of their desire to share that joy….  Their message is one of hope and beauty, and will delight all those who experience them in person.”

Quartett Giocosa will be joined by pianist Irina Kotlyar.  As a member of the Kotlyar-Shifrin Piano Duo, pianist Irina Kotlyar is the winner of several international awards, including the International competition in Poland and the Murrey Dranoff International Two Piano Competition.  She has performed throughout Europe, Israel and the United States.

Tickets for both events are $22, and are available at the door of both venues.  Tickets for the Wellfleet Preservation Hall concert may also be purchased online at www.wellfleetpreservationhall.org.  More information is available at Quartett Giocosa’s website, www.quartettgiocosa.com.
