MSPCA Pet of the Week - Chippy Bird the Parakeet

The quintessential family starter pet!

Many folks still don’t know that you need never go to a pet store to buy a beautiful parakeet—the quintessential family starter pet—in fact, you can go to your local animal shelter and adopt!  Adoption saves two lives: the life of the bird in the cage and the life of a bird who may need temporary refuge in said cage before she, too, can be adopted.

“Chippy Bird” is one of several young parakeets currently up for adoption at the MSPCA-Cape Cod in Centerville.  Like most parakeets, Chippy Bird is social and loves living in a small group.  For this reason staffers encourage adopters to take home two parakeets so their new pet has a friend.  Parakeets do really well with lots of time outside the cage and interactive play with their human families.  And best of all, the supplies that Chippy Bird will need can be purchased at the adoption center, or at any pet store.

Swing by the MSPCA-Cape Cod Adoption Center during open hours or email [email protected] for more information about Chippy Bird!
