FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Hyannis, MA – June 25, 2019)  The 2019 Town of Barnstable Fourth of July Celebration on Thursday, July 4, 2019 from 4:00-9:00 PM will kick-off six full hours of fun with the traditional 4:00 PM Parade on Main Street with lots of brand new entries and members of the Barnstable Youth Commission heading it all off as Grand Marshals followed by hours of live music, strolling entertainers and festive activities along Main Street and down to the waterfront at Hyannis Harbor.  The theme for this year’s festivities is “A Star Spangled Independence Day!”  and the Barnstable Fourth of July Parade Committee wants you to “smile and share” your photos on Instagram and Facebook with #hyannis4th in your comments.

The parade will step off promptly at 4:00 PM at the corner of Old Colony Road and Main Street in Hyannis.  This year’s Grand Marshals will be members of the Barnstable Youth Commission.  The Roaming Railroad makes its return and dozens more entries, many of which are new this year, will complement traditional favorites like the Colum Cille Pipe & Drum Band and Shriners Aleppo Brigade.  Participants can sign up on line to enter their float, antique vehicle or group until Friday, June 28th.  The web site is

Performances by local musicians like the Nicholas Sucheki Jazz Quartet and Anna and the Moderns will take place at the Hyannis Village Green and Aselton Park.  Hyannis Sound and other roaming entertainers will delight the crowds as they travel up and down Main Street throughout the afternoon and evening.  Play corn hole and other lawn games, visit the Artist Shanties at the Overlook and at Bismore Park; enjoy a tasty treat from a Main Street business or one of the food truck vendors.  There is truly something for everyone to enjoy!

NEW THIS YEAR!  The Town of Barnstable’s roaming ambassadors, the Gateway Greeters, will be handing out information and encouraging parade-goers to “smile and share” their photos on social networking with a hashtag #hyannis4th to encourage a creative way to foster unity and celebrate the spirit of independence.  The Gateway Greeters will be dressed in colorful shirts that call attention to their willingness to help.

At dusk, the Town of Barnstable Fireworks over Hyannis Harbor will be presented from a barge in Lewis Bay and spectators can tune into the musical soundtrack that will be broadcast live on WXTK-95.1FM or download the iHeart Media app on your smartphone.

The Fourth of July Celebration Committee is comprised of local business owners and neighborhood residents whose purpose is to organize and produce six hours of continuous family programming for residents and visitors, seek donations and volunteers, and work with Town departments to present a unique experience during the busiest holiday of the year in Hyannis and Cape Cod.

Members of The Barnstable Youth Commission are appointed by Town Council each year and must be residents of the Town of Barnstable 18 years of age and under.  Their goal is to work with Town officials to assist in solving problems and make the Town a better place for the Youth of today and tomorrow.  Recent accomplishments include the 7th Grade Youth Summit, Youth Job Fair, One Love program to educate students about healthy relationships, Ambassadors for a Youth Homelessness survey, and coming soon, the development of a Youth Suicide Prevention Task Force.  The 2018-19 members attend Barnstable High School, Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich, Sturgis Public Charter Schools and Saint John Paul II Catholic High School in Hyannis.

Businesses and individuals who wish to support this annual tradition can contact Kevin Shanley at 508-776-5885 or email  [email protected].  Volunteers are needed throughout the day and are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.  An online volunteer application form is available here.
