Pocasset, MA – Hydroid, Inc., a subsidiary of Kongsberg Maritime and a leading manufacturer of marine robotics systems, today announced they have been awarded Manufacturer of the Year for the Third Barnstable district by the Massachusetts State Manufacturing Caucus. Hydroid was nominated by Massachusetts State Representative, David Vieira, who represents the Third Barnstable District which consists of parts of Bourne, Falmouth and Mashpee. As part of October’s manufacturing month each year, Massachusetts lawmakers select one recipient from their district to receive the award.

"I am proud that the Massachusetts Legislative Manufacturing Caucus recognized Hydroid, Inc. for their Outstanding Leadership Skills in the Manufacturing Industry at the 2019 Manufacturing Awards Ceremony. I nominated Hydroid because I am so proud that this locally-based company, with global influence, serves as a perfect example of how research and innovation can translate into cutting edge technology products and jobs. Hydroid is a leader in advanced marine robotics, designing and manufacturing state-of-the-art autonomous underwater vehicles for use in the marine research, commercial, and defense industries. I look forward to their continued success and expansion on Cape Cod,” said State Representative David T. Vieira (R-East Falmouth).

Hydroid’s Vice President of Operations, Derek Daly, attended the awards ceremony at the Massachusetts State House on October 22nd. “We are honored - this award shows how far we have come over the years, growing from a start-up atmosphere in 2001 to a leading manufacturer in the area today.” said Daly. “We wouldn’t be where we are now without the hard work of our employees, who are passionate about creating value for our customers and seeking new ways to improve our manufacturing processes.”

Hydroid opened their 50,000 square-foot purpose built state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Pocasset, MA in 2014. Since then, Hydroid has been continuously improving their manufacturing processes. In 2016, Hydroid received a Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund Grant from the state to provide Lean Manufacturing training for employees. By integrating work cells and other Lean processes, Hydroid has seen an increase of production capacity of over 50%. Hydroid employs over 200 employees, with over 150 trained in Lean manufacturing processes, to design, manufacture, service and support their advanced marine robotics.
