Yarmouth Police File Charges Against Man Who Attacked Girl at DY High

YPD MEDIA RELEASE:

Working co-operatively with Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School Officials, D-Y School Resource Police Officers, Cape Abilities, and our Detectives we continue to actively investigate what occurred at D-Y on Tuesday morning, October 29, 2019.

In the past two days, we have obtained, reviewed, and secured the D-Y surveillance camera video footage, interviewed numerous students and staff, completed written reports, and any and all known encounters in the community on record with the young man involved.

We have conferred with the Office of the Cape and Islands District Attorney what occurred and the status of the man who has developmental disabilities.

We have spoken to the parents of the man and the survivor who are all very cooperative.

We have taken action to support the survivor of the attack and provide additional services through our Victim Services unit.

We continue to work cooperatively with school officials and the group home involved to review security procedures and improve safety.

Today, the Yarmouth Police Department has filed charges against the 23 year old man in the Barnstable District Court for Trespassing on the grounds of the D-Y high school and Assault and Battery on the young girl.
