This week, the Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod kicked off their 2nd annual Stuff a Stocking.  Now through December 19, people are encouraged to drop off toys and much needed supplies to stuff oversized stockings in each of the banks branches.

Stuff a Stocking benefits the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod.

Christmas carolers are needed for this year's 7th annual Holiday Cookie Stroll on Saturday, December 8.  The popular event is a benefit for the South Yarmouth Library.

Men and women are wanted to entertain on the day of the stroll. Stroll hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

CareWell Urgent Care will host a dedication and open house at their new South Dennis location in Patriot Square on Saturday, October 20.

The open house will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. 

There will be music, refreshments, tours for all ages and special guests.

Participating restaurants to donate a portion of proceeds August 31 through Columbus Day

August 31 through Columbus Day, several Wellfleet restaurants have pledged to donate a portion of their evening food sales to the Wellfleet Council on Aging.

The proceeds will benefit services, senior center programs and special needs of Wellfleet seniors.

Latham Centers, Inc., a Cape-based not-for-profit serving children and adults with complex special needs, announced Wednesday the election of Jeni A. Landers of Dennis, David J. Lofstrom of Kingston, and Octavia Ossola of Brewster to its Board of Directors.

August 13 auction benefits new Cape Abilities initiative

The Naked Oyster Bistro & Raw Bar in Hyannis hosted its annual Local Chefs Challenge & Restaurant Auction to benefit Cape Abilities on August 13. The auction was a huge success raising funds to help support Cape Abilities Farms and the Autism Project, a new Cape Abilities initiative.

Thirteen local chefs, including Florence Lowell of the Naked Oyster, contributed dinners in their restaurants or in the lucky bidders’ home.

Group will provide participants with useful information and guidance without judgement

The Barnstable Senior Center announced a new support group for male caregivers. The group will meet every first and third Wednesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The group will provide support and education in a friendly, confidential environment.

Cape Cod Hospital one of only two from Massachusetts on the list

Cape Cod Hospital has earned another distinction, this time being named one of America's 100 Great Community Hospitals by Becker's Hospital Review.

Becker's Hospital Review, published nine times a year, focuses on business and legal issues important to healthcare provider CEOs and CFOs.  Becker's editorial staff turned to a variety of industry sources to compile the Top 100 list.

The Chase Free Library has announced new hours. Beginning on July 3, 2012, the library will be open two days a week, on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

The hours are intended to better accommodate patrons and borrowers.

The library is at Seven Route 28 in West Harwich.

The 68" x 68" handmade quilt was created by Alys Bownes, a patron of the library and wife of trustee Bob Bownes.  The quilt, entitled "Thar She Blows", is currently on display at the library at 43 Wianno Ave., Osterville.

Tickets are $5 each or $20 for 5 and are available at the circulation desk or on the library's website here.

The winner of the quilt will be drawn at the library's gala auction on Friday, June 29.

Suffolk MPA students at Cape Cod Community College will receive first priority

Applications are now being accepted for the 2012-2013 Geraldine F. Lavin $1,000 Breast Cancer Memorial Scholarship for Suffolk University Sawyer Business School MPA students.

The deadline is Friday, June 1, 2012.
