<link>http://www.capecodtoday.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=1289</link>
<description>Museum also seeks volunteers
The Coast Guard Heritage Museum in Barnstable Village is now on Winter Hours to prepare for our Eighth Season opening in early May 2012.&amp;nbsp; The officers, directors and volunteers are using this time to change displays, rearrange exhibits, purchase new gifts and books and continue working on inventory. We offer new and return visitors a chance to see collections they might otherwise miss.

Anyone who plans to visit the Museum between now and early May is welcome to come on Tuesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 11:30 A.M. and 2:00 P.M.&amp;nbsp;
Please call 508-362-8521 to make sure someone will be on hand to greet you. Visitors should be prepared to stay out of restricted areas where work is being conducted.
We encourage more local people to become volunteers to assist the aging cadre of volunteer docent-guide-interpreters. All we ask of new volunteers is one-day-a-week four to five hours on the day they choose.&amp;nbsp; We provide the necessary training. New volunteers may bring a friend or spouse to while away the hours during slack times.
Qualified volunteers may be entitled to compensation for travel to and from the Museum located on Cobbs Hill across from the Barnstable Unitarian Church on Route 6A.
Prior Military service is not required. We have volunteers from every branch of the Armed Forces and many civilians. They have a love of history and an appreciation for what the Coast Guard has done --and continues to do-- for of our coastal communities.
Memberships are available and donations are always welcome.
The Coast Guard Heritage Museum is at 3353 Main Street (Route 6A) in Barnstable Village, 508-362-8521.

<title>Bourne Outdoor Classroom fundraiser at the Beach House in North Falmouth September 11</title>
<link>http://www.capecodtoday.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=1277</link>
<description>On Sunday, September 11 from 2 p.m. to 7
 p.m., the Outdoor Classroom fund-raiser will be held at the Beach House
 in North Falmouth.&amp;nbsp; The event, which features raffles and entertainment
 by Jimmy Decatur, Andrew Lowenstein and others, will raise funds to
build an outdoor classroom behind the Bourne Middle School.
The idea of an outdoor classroom was conceived by Carolyn Forsberg, a
 7th grade teacher at Bourne Middle School. The outdoor classroom will
be created in honor of Freddy Dunbury, a Bourne High School junior who
passed away in 1976, and his father, Fredrick J. Dunbury Sr., who worked
 in the Bourne school system as both a principal and assistant
superintendent, and who died in 2007.&amp;nbsp;
Ms. Forsberg came up with the idea of an outdoor classroom after
attending Mr. Dunbury's funeral and watching a procession pass through
the area where the classroom will be constructed. In that area, there is
 a bench in Freddy's honor and according to Ms. Forsberg, for such a
special place, it is not very appealing.
The classroom will be used by students and teachers from Bourne High
School, Middle School and Peebles School, by coaches and teams and
members of the community.
Tony Dunbury has already begun working on the area which will be made
 up of pavers, wooden benches and shrubbery.&amp;nbsp; The basic plan is expected
 to cost $7,000. Any additional funds raised will be used to enhance the
 layout.
The Beach House is on Route 151 in North Falmouth. A donation box will
be at the event. Donations may also be set to: Bourne's Outdoor
Classroom, PO Box 12, Pocasset, MA 02559.
For more information about the event or the project, email Carolyn Forsberg here.</description>
