New England 13, NY Jets 10...
The New England Patriots eked out a sloppy win on a sloppy field last night. Final sxore? 13-10.
The Pats were 11.5 point favorites, so some money got lost last night.
Did I mention that the game was ugly? The Jets had a rookie QB who put up a 27.6 QB rating. Our QB, Tom Brady, had his 2 best non-jailed pass catchers out of the lineup, so he was throwing to rookies and chumps. He gradually became furious as routes were run wrong and passes were dropped. I had a deaf friend over who can read lips, and she said Tom was so rattled that he was yelling nonsense like "What the duck??" at guys.
Brady had 185 yards passing, and a 37 yard TD pass to ol' hands of stone, Aaron Dobson. Julian Edelman had 13 catches for 70+ yards. Chandler Jones had 2 sacks, and Aqib Talib had a pair of inrterceptions.
The Pats improve to 2-0, and stand unchallenged atop the AFC East. Their next game is a week from Sunday, against Tampa Bay.
The Pats put me over .500 for the betting season.
Last Week: 8-8
.... Mass Maritime Wins A Thriller....
The Massachusetts Maritime Academy represented hard against New York as well, straight-up handling the SUNY-Maritime Academy. This means that, for this year anyhow, we're the Maritime Academy with the better kids.
MMA battled back from a 20-10 deficit, to set things right. John Trudel banged in a 12 yard run to provide the winning points for the MMA. I saw his father Mr. Trudel after the game, and he was as proud as parents get. Yarmouthport's own Victor Andrade had 11 tackles.
The key play was a defensive stand with less than a minute left . Reynard Ortiz snuffed SUNY QB Isiah Covington to preserve the lead as time was running out.
Final score? 24-20! Yay Bucs!
It was MMA's first Chowder Bowl win in their last 6 tries. They go up against Maine Maritime next week in the Admiral's Cup.
... Local High School Schedules, Predictions...
Marshfield at #14 Plymouth South (-6), 4 PM
Marsh Vegas would love to play spolier, but that probably isn't going to happen.
Sandwich at Nauset (-1), 7 PM
This is a tough one to call, but Nauset is as of yet undefeated. I'll go with the home team.
Dennis Yarmouth (-7) at Plymouth North, 4 PM
DY isn't ranked for a reason, although the Barnstable win would be a nice peak for them.
Matingnon at Pope John Paul (-7), 7 PM
PJP2 smoked Super Bowl champ Upper Cape last week, and little looks to stand oin their way.
Seekonk (-6) at Greater New Bedford, 7 PM
The only other New Bedford, who could be Lesser New Bedford, is actually the actual Bigger New Bedford.
Carver at Norwell (-2)l, 7 PM
Carver High is in the house, getting some exercise before the harvest.
New Bedford at Taunton (-9), 4 PM
I like New Beffuh a lot more now that Duxbury dropped them like a hot potato after last year's bad scene.
Bishop Connolly at Durfee (+3), 7 PM
The Bishop is generally no joke, but Durfee has a large student base to draw on. They'll cover, at least.
Silver Lake at Malden Catholic (-10), 7 PM
MC Hammer(s) the poor Lakers.
Malden Catholic, 27-7
Bishop Stang (+4) at Dartmouth, 7 PM
Stang rocked last week, but Dartmouth is always tough.
Falmouth at Mashpee (-7), 7 PM
I was in Mashpee today, so I choose Them.
Bourne at Cardinal Spellman (-13), 7 PM
Bourne took a stomping last week, and 0-2 is the start of a bad year after getting whooped up on by the Catholics.
#5 Bridgewater-Raynham (-1) at #11 Duxbury, 7 PM
Duxbury looked mortal last week, and hopefully order will be restored tonight.
Brighton (-10) at Martha's Vineyard, 1 PM
MV needs Brighton to be very seasick after the ferry ride, and the surf should be up.
Hull(-3) at South Shore Voke Tech, 12:15 PM
It will be a Hull of an afternoon out on the South Shore's mini-Cape..
Old Colony (-7) at Cape Cod Tech, 1 PM
The OC comes to town and CCTech suffers heavily.
