Boston can wrap up the World Series at Fenway....
The Boston Red Sox won Game 5 of the World Series tonight, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals. The final score was 3-1. The win puts Boston ahead 3-2 in the best of 7 series.
Jon "Mo" Lester was evil tonight, scattering 4 hits and striking out 7. Koji "Chief" U'Hara came in for an inning and a third of masterful relief.
David Ortiz started the scoring with a first inning double. After that, Cards starter Adam Wainwright settled down some. He combined with the bullpen to strike out 14 Socks... but you ain't winning jack if you score only one run, and one run is all they scored.
Jacoby Ellsbury and David Ross drove in runs to make the difference for the Sox, and Wainwright was visibly intimidated by Big Papi's machismo. Papi is hitting a torrid .733 in the World Series, and is almost definitely the MVP.
The series returns to Fenway Park on Wednesday night, as John Lackey takes on Mike "Wacha Wacha" Wacha. If the series goes 7 games, you might see Lester pitch again. He was masterful.
Game 7, God forbid, would be on Halloween, and would- to my knowledge- be the first Costumed Riot in the history of the planet.
