Football South Sectional Finals, Consolation Games

Barnstable and Dennis-Yarmouth Still In It...

We're balls-deep into the high school football tournament. We have the South Finals this weekend, as local primacy is established. Whoever wins plays their North counterpart in the EMass finals, and the winner plays whoever comes out of the Oblivion that we think of as Central/Western Massachusetts.

The teams who have been eliminated from the tournament have been patched together for a lengthy consolation round. You get local games like Middleboro/Wareham, and you get some long bus rides like Bourne/Ashland.

As always, our work here is For Entertainment Purposes Only. FEPO, blogga!

PLAYOFF TOURNAMENT

Division 1 South

Attleboro at Xaverian (-3)

Saturday, 1 PM

The #1 overall spot has traded hands a few times, but Xaverian will be left holding it when it matters. The winner gets the winner of Central Cathoilc/Everett.

Xaverian, 31-23

Division 2 South

Barnstable at Mansfield (-1)

Friday, 7 PM

Mansfield is a powerhouse, and has slapped aside everyone who wanted some for the past few years. They're a bad apple, but Barnstable has handled bad apples before. The winner gets the winner of Walpole/Lincoln-Sudbury.

Barnstable, 17-16

Division 3 Southeast

Plymouth North at Plymouth South (-7)

Friday, 7 PM

The Battle of Plymouth II. South won the earlier matchup this season. This one is for the Division 3 SE title, and they also play on Thanksgiving. Pencil in three touchdowns for Dylan Oxsen. The winner of Oliver Ames/Norton awaits the top Pilgrim.

P-South, 24-13

Division 4 South

Holliston at Dennis-Yarmouth (-6)

Friday, 7 PM

Barnstable could end up being the top team in the state, and D-Y beat them down like a jobber. Winner gets Pentucket/Bedford winner.

D-Y, 37-30

Division 5 South

Abington at Old Rochester (-1)

Friday, 7 PM

If you ever want a boring drive, take a trip down Abington's main drag. Then, afterwards, know that Abinbgton looks like Shanghai compared to Rochester. Whoever survives the Bishop Fenwick/Northeast Regional game gets the winner of this one.

Abington, 21-20

Division 6 South

Millis-Hopedale at Cohasset (-7)

Friday, 7 PM

I don't even know where to STAT looking on a map for Hopedale. Cohasset buries them in yardage. Latin Academy/ St. Clement's is the prize for the winner.

Cohasset, 31-17

CONSOLATION ROUND

FRIDAY

7 PM

Upper Cape at Bristol-Plymouth (+3)

Jon DuMont rolls for 3 TDs to slap two counties at once.

UCT, 27-21

7 PM

Whitman-Hanson at Sandwich (-1)

Sammich is hosting, and I'll give them 2 points for it.

Sammich, 21-19

7 PM

Bourne at Ashland (-7)

Bourne will lose the game, but will get home in time to close the bar at the Way Ho. My second favorite Stacey lives in Ashland.

Ashland, 24-10

7 PM

Falmouth at Pembroke (-1)

Falmouth comes onto the mainland and handle the swamp kids.

Falmouth, 13-12

7 PM

Durfee at Quincy (-1)

There should be one big Quincy school, and they should be playing other cities.

Quincy, 20-17

7 PM

Silver Lake at Taunton (-1)

Silver Lake is a dangerous team, but it would be more dangerous with Pembroke in it.

Taunton, 17-14

7 PM

Hanover at Scituate (-4)

Scituate put 40+ up on Hangover earlier in the year.

Scituate, 37-28

7 PM

Wareham at Middleboro (-5)

It's been a tough year in ?ham.

Middy, 24-7

5:30 PM

Martha's Vineyard at Archbishop Williams (-1)

Martha is better, but they're going over the Sound and through the woods for this game.

Archie, 20-10

7 PM

Fairhaven at Norwell (5)

Norwell has run some Cape teams, so we'll assume they can handle Fairhaven as well.

Norwell, 20-7

7 PM

New Bedford at Weymouth (-1)

New Beffuh is better than I seem to think they are, so we'll give them a tough road game on the Irish Riviera.

New Beige, 21-20

7 PM

Westwood at Apponequet (+3)

Whatever town is next to Westwood should change their name to "Eastwood." The contenders are Dedham and Canton.

Westwood, 30-28

7 PM

Wellesley at Marshfield (+5)

Wellesley sat on Duxbury and slapped her in the face until they cried, so this low spread shows that someone important thinks Marshfield is better than Duxbury.

Wellesley, 30-20

7 PM

Dighton-Rehoboth at Dartmouth (-1)

I bet it is very difficult to say "Rehoboth" if you have a lisp.

Dartmouth, 21-17

7 PM

Nantucket at Mashpee (-3)

We get some Cape vs Islands action out of the tournament.

Mashpee, 17-16

7 PM

King Phillip at Duxbury (+10)

Duxbury doesn't have it this year, and becomes the plaything of yet another better team.

King Phiilip, 35-24

SATURDAY

1 PM

Monomoy at Bishop Connolly (-7)

Monomoy overcomes heavy odds to beat the Bishop.

Monomoy, 14-13

1 PM

Holbrook-Avon at Cape Cod Tech (+7)

Said it before, saying it again.... Holbrook-Avon's team should be called the "Ladies."

Holbrook-Avon, 21-7

7 PM

Carver at Pope John Paul II (-1)

The best night action on Cape Cod is, as always, at the Catholic school.

Carver, 30-27
