Thoughts, Rantings, and Perspective
I went in with an open mind. I admit I was a bit angry, everyone was. I thought Chris Keavey would be a great leader for the next year and I still feel that way. The new leader of St Francis Xavier school will be long time teacher Mrs. Elizabeth Kelley. I trust she is capable of doing everything that is necessary to provide a quality education for the children. Very little change is planned, which is good. I am still a bit miffed that Robert Deburro walked away from it all but at least now I understand why.
As we have gone over the education of my children is very important to me and as fate would have it the one school I wasn't that upset with is being merged with a high school. That would be St. Francis Xavier Preparatory School and Pope John Paul II High School.
Of course in the Catholic church things are run the way the Bishops sees to run things. Although I do feel that both schools need to do whatever it takes to become more competitive in an ever changing Cape school market. The Diocese of Fall River went about it the wrong way.
As anyone that reads my blog already knows, I am passionate about education. It's important, not just for the kids, but for our society.
Since yesterdays blog has created such a stir I got to thinking that this is probably not the only time a teacher has wasted valuable school instruction time and it probably happens at others schools. Who am I kidding, we all know it does. Otherwise why would people so vigorously defend a teacher that takes kids out to play basketball instead of teaching, especially in a school with such poor MCAS scores.
Finally the end of the school year is approaching so I shall opine on what I have learned. These are my opinions about local schools, and teachers. It's an honest assessment, nothing more or less.
Since my last blog posting about the Yarmouth police department and a bitter feud that has been raging for over two years regarding the departments posting of local crimes on their Facebook page, the page has been very community friendly.
Almost exclusively they posted information about community events, I counted four arrests. So either they toned it down as requested by local businesses, they toned it down for some other reason or this is all a bunch of complaining about nothing. As a long time follower of their Facebook page, I think it's clearly been toned down.
It's become difficult lately to follow all of the scandals in Washington, it's very disheartening. I know it's weird. I have never been a fan of President Obama, but like most people I want to have faith in my government. I generally don't trust it and my cynical side tells me that it's just organized crime. Like the child of an alcoholic I am always hoping things will get better, and instead, it gets worse and I get angry.
