Are we living in the Twilight Zone?

What strange times we live in, a few months ago all that was talked about was the economy, now it's gun control, but wait maybe not. The President is now out campaigning for new strict "universal back round checks" and then he released a picture of himself allegedly shooting skeet. Why? Does he somehow need to prove his is a man because he can shoot at piece of clay? To top it off they released the following statement: "This official White House photograph is being made available only for publication by news organizations and/or for personal use printing by the subject(s) of the photograph. The photograph may not be manipulated in any way and may not be used in commercial or political materials, advertisements, emails, products, promotions that in any way suggests approval or endorsement of the President, the First Family, or the White House.”  As you can see the emperor has no cloths..

Obama has all but conceded that any new gun laws that would ban assault rifles would have little effect on any future massacre's like the one that occurred at Sandy Hook. In other words, Harry Reid is never going to allow a vote on the assault weapons ban, so we may as well tell everyone it wouldn't have made a difference.

I know some of the people who read my blog live in a part of the country where information from reliable news sources are blocked or they are otherwise to intellectually lazy to search for it themselves, so I am providing a link to an interview with Senator Reid from just last week talking about this very issue.

Universal background checks sound like a good idea, right? I mean nobody wants mentally ill people to get their hands on a gun. So why is it that Massachusetts has only reported one mental health record to the FBI since 1999? Well, if you believe the writers at the Boston Globe it's the gun lobby, the NRA that is blocking the deal. Imagine that, in Massachusetts we have a gun lobby so strong that all the politicians are afraid to vote to allow mental illness records to be released to the FBI.. Anyone want to buy a bridge, I have two!

So how do we get to universal background checks? The fact of the matter is that gun shops and other places that sell guns, like Walmart and Dicks Sporting Goods, already conduct a back round checks with the FBI, flawed as it may be. There are millions of guns already out there, in homes, basements, etc, how do we check the back round of every person that may buy one of those? The only logical way is to register all firearms. That's what universal back round checks actually means. There is no other way to know who is selling what to whom other wise. Logically, is there? Of course that question is rhetorical...

Good luck with that, I say.  Even if the idea does become law, which I doubt it ever will. I know I won't follow it. As King Leonidas said to the Persians before the Battle of Thermopylae when they demanded the Spartans surrender their weapons, "Molon Labe". Come take them!

Meanwhile, the GDP has dropped and unemployment ticked up a notch to 7.9%. Gas prices are on the rise again, and the jobs council was disbanded. Strange times...
