Celebrating its third year in business and welcoming a new food vendor, the Hyannis Youth & Community Center will again welcome citizens and visitors to an Open House including a Touch-a-Truck in the expansive parking lot, two discounted public skating sessions and an indoor fun center complete with inflatable slide and bouncy tent! The festivities take place on Saturday, September 22nd at the facility owned and operated by the Town of Barnstable, which is located at 141 Bassett Lane, Hyannis, MA. Families can enjoy a sample of programs that take place at the center and renew or sign up for annual memberships and programs, then take in a hockey game and enjoy the new menu offerings. Admission is FREE (public skating entry has been reduced) and various activities will be going on all day.
Starting off the day, public skating will take place in the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Memorial Skating Rink with music and fun for all. A special $3 Birthday pricing will be in effect.
Skate rentals are available for $5 with many available from tot to adult sizes. Another public skate will take place from 3:50PM to 4:50PM and the special pricing will be honored at that time as well.
Family Fun in the Gymnasium will start at 9:00AM as Miss Lori will conduct a KlubKidz play group, offering kids and their adult friends creative movement techniques that the whole family can enjoy! Meanwhile, there will be games and prizes, face painting and inflatable fun thanks to a castle of fun bouncy house and a huge slide provided by Coastal Equipment Rental that kids of all ages can enjoy!
From 10:00AM to Noon a Touch-A-Truck will offer free access to more than 25 vehicles from town departments including police, fire, marine environmental and DPW as well as local businesses like Cape Cod Duckmobile, Capeway Towing, Coastal Equipment Rental, First Student, Maffei Landscaping and Pina Sanitation.
The highlight of the day will be the Grand Re-Opening Ceremony of the Scudder Family Café as The Casual Gourmet Express officially opens for business in the Hyannis Youth & Community Center, adding to their growing list of community-based service centers that include the Cape Cod Hospital, Cape Cod Mall and most recently Highfield Hall in Falmouth. Café hours will be Monday-Friday 2PM-8PM and weekends 7AM-8PM.
After the second public skate, the Cape Cod Jr. Islanders will take the ice in the home opener of the season at 7:00PM as they face their rival team, the New England Stars. As a member of the Northern States Junior Hockey League, the 2012/13 Islanders bring several local faces to the team with forwards Connor Fries/Centerville, Chris Harris/Centerville, Connor O’Melia/Centerville, Joe Peterson/Harwich and Collin Fader/Harwich; defense players Kris Franks/Centerville and Dave Skarbek/Hyannis; and goalies Marquise Almeida/Wareham and Nick Canatta/Sandwich. The roster also includes players from all over the country and the world including Georgia, New York, Ohio and Colorado as well as Canada, Italy, Sweden and Russia. Check for updates on the Islanders web site at www.capecodjrislanders.com. As part of the 3rd Birthday Celebration, HYCC members will get free entry to the home opener game. General Admission for all games is $5 for adults and kids 10 and under are FREE!
The HYCC is a 105,000 sq. ft. full service community center that primarily services the youth of the Town of Barnstable which includes the school district’s athletic departments, after-school programs, hockey and figure skating competitive organizations and community groups, and the estimated 2,500 children whose families reside within a one-mile radius of the facility.
