Andrea Silbert called on opponents to disclose tax returns

In a story in yesterday's Worcester Telegram & Gazette, Harwich's Andrea Silbert is credited with forcing other candidates for Lt. Governor to disclose their tax returns.

Click to see her site The story said in part,

Andrea C. Silbert, of Harwich, founder of the Center for Women and Enterprise, said she and her husband, Craig Caldwell, a graphic designer and artist, made a combined income of $52,047 last year, paying federal taxes of $11,290 and receiving a refund of $5,818....

Ms. Silbert called on her other opponents to release their tax returns, saying they provide useful information to voters.  “We’re asking voters to choose us for the two highest offices in the state, governor and lieutenant governor, and I think it’s important for voters to understand how we live our lives,” she said...

It's easy to disclose your tax returns if you have no income. Let's ask them to declare their assets too and see how many oblige. And besides do we really want to elect politicians who need the job?

So I guess that last posting supports non-disclosure? What about all the stuff we hear about transparency? I don't want to elect politicians with secrets.

I'm more concerned with the poor ones running for office, e.g. the State Reps. They wouldn't be running for the job if they had one. They're also in it for the pension.
The Governor's race is about power.
I'd worry about Reilly selling the corner office, rather Heally doing a few favors for friends. Reilly has to sell his soul to special interests to get elected. Heally can pay for it our of pocket.
What's worse, Reilly has a powerful office right now. What kind of favors is he doing now to get elected?

Everything I read about Ms Silbert make like her more and more. When I first heard of her candidacy, I though it was a bit of a joke but she really looks qualified and I can tell you, you put those qualifications in the city or at a college it would be an easy $125k no heavy lifting and less of a commute. This is how to run for statewide office. I like her and I don't like many people. Cape Cod needs more people like her. Good luck Andrea

So only rich people should run for office?! Boy, I'll really be comfortable with only rich (and given the previous writer's comments, I'm guessing white men) running the show. 'Cause that's worked sooooooo well throughout history. I'm sure they'll do a great job looking out for the little guy (or the middle-class woman).

I did that that only the rich should run. I was saying that she looks to be seeking office not to just find a job (she has plenty of options for private employement) but to serve the community(the proper reason to run) I just fear the people who are looking for a State job because they have no other good employement options.
