The Best Fried Clams on Cape Cod
Price can't be a criteria for this crucial, culinary crustacean consideration
Tell us where you think we will find them
his is not the usual "Cheap Eats" column. We're talkin' FRIED freakin' CLAMS here, and price should not even enter into the discussion.
After all, those of us beyond a "certain age" can only munch these mollusk morsels on rare occasions, usually right after (but never before) having a cholesterol screening. So when we do eat 'em, they better be the best. Period.
After four decades of searching on this narrow land, my wife and I have come to the conclusion that -
Our favorite is Marathon Seafood, Route 28, West Dennis.
I used to only get Fried Clams at Sir Cricket on Route 6-A in Orleans, and they are really excellent as well.
But in our lifelong quest for quahog quality, we kept testing until we discovered that charming Greek gentleman Teddy at Marathon.
I think he must change the oil every hour the clams and onion rings are so perfect and golden.
And talk about Greek Salad...
Marathon is also justly famous for the best (and least expensive) Greek Salad on this peninsula which is held together by Greek-owned restaurant.
The small one will stuff you and be the perfect antidote to the fried clams.
What is YOUR favorite place for fried clams?
So the point of this column is to ask your help in telling our readers (264,000 unique visitors last month) which fried clams are YOUR favorite.
You can tell us about stuffed quahogs, littlenecks and oysters (fried or raw), and we'll listen, but we really want to end this debate for all time, so please take ONE MINUTE to register and give us YOUR opinion below.

Even if shellfish is fatal to you Monponsett, go to Marathan in West Dennis on Route 28.
I's worth the reaction ;>)
You're correct about The Kreme 'n Kone if you mean the one in Dennis on 28 at 134. It's great and they now have a deck overlooking Swan River.
They both use a secret recipe for the batter that has been handed down from Leonardo da Vinci throught the Priory of Sion to Tom Hanks. (Ha! I just threw that in there for the paranoid conspiracy nuts!)
But those two are the best.
I agree with the above, Dennis holds the record especially with Marathon and Capt'n Frosty's.
ps..how dare you mention sir crickets s best clams!greasy unedible crap IMHO

As for the price, well lets just say they could retire at the end of a single season. Between the prices quality and comfort, I see no reason to go back there.
If you don't mind traveling UP Cape--Seafood Sam's or Cooke's. All their seafood is the freshest. Or ask the locals. Good luck.

About This Blog
Life is too cheap for short wine... It's "Not just Pheasant Under Glass" anymore on Cape Cod. As hard as it may seem on occasions, Cape Cod does have inexpensive, good places to eat without maxing out your credit cards.
Since we eat out six nights a week, it is purely defensive for us to find some relief for an over-taxed palate.

I personally don't eat seafood. I'm violently allergic. This sucked when I was a kid, because there was a lengthy period where I was sort of on my own, and wicked poor.
I lived on Duxbury Beach, between a clam bed and a lobster, well, whatever you call it where lobbies hang out.
Many a night I ate Ramen Noodles for dinner, when I could have had all the clam or lobster I wanted by going out the door and either digging or swimming/diving. But NO...
