Woman dies after Ptown incident; Two nabbed for OUI in Yarmouth; mosquitoes test positive for EEE

Woman passes away after Provincetown incident
PROVINCETOWN - What may be a case of domestic violence has left a woman dead. About 11:10 PM Friday night several calls were received for a woman down after possibly being struck by a vehicle here on Route 6 in Provincetown at the Truro town line. The victim was rushed to Provincetown Municipal Airport and Medflighted to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Sources are telling Cape Wide News the victim may have either jumped or fell out of the the vehicle during a heated argument only to then be struck by the car. Police set up a dragnet on the Outer Cape and about 45 minutes later Truro Officer James Roach spotted the vehicle traveling on Route 6 in that town and stopped it. As at least a half dozen cruisers converged on the scene and a male in that vehicle was arrested. Later Saturday morning only Cape Wide News cameras caught this picture of the suspect being led to a police cruiser. Provincetown Police have now identified him as 36-year old Gustavo Ramirez JR. of Troy, NY who is charged with assault and battery, possession of class D (marijuana) and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. Update: Gustavo Ramirez JR pled not guilty and was ordered held on $35,000 cash bail this Tuesday in Orleans District Court in connection with the weekend incident in Provincetown that left Katherine Wagoner critically injured. Late Wednesday Wagoner passed away. Prosecutors are now awaiting an autopsy to determine if additional charges will be filed. The main unanswered question is whether the victim jumped or was pushed from Ramirez’s vehicle. Updated on 9/07 at 5:00 PM. 

State Police forensic experts were in Provincetown through much of Saturday morning collecting evidence from the scene and the vehicle this 1999 Chevy Malibu which was impounded at here at the Provincetown Police Station.

Two arrested for OUI in just over an hour in Yarmouth
YARMOUTH - Two women were arrested for alleged drunk driving in separate incidents in just over an hour early Friday morning in Yarmouth. About 12:15 AM officers spotted a Honda Element weaving on Willow Street in Yarmouthport. They stopped the vehicle and reportedly found 40-year old Bernadette Murphy of Mashpee with nine hypodermic needles in a bag on her lap. She was arrested on charges of OUI (second offense), OUI drugs, marked lanes violation, operating to endanger, and possession of hypodermic needles. At about 1:25 AM another officer reportedly saw a Dodge Colt speeding and crossing over the yellow line on Route 28 in West Yarmouth. 37-year old Angela Hicks of Dennis was subsequently charged with OUI, marked lanes violation and speeding. Mosquitoes test positive for EEE
CAPE COD - Two reports have been received of mosquitoes testing positive for eastern equine encephalitis (EEE). One was in Marstons Mills, the other in Dennis. The news comes a day after a 9-year old Middleboro boy died from the illness. State health officials have been spraying in Plymouth and Bristol Counties but there are no plans to spray on the Cape. Officials urge people to use bug spray and wear clothing that covers extremities. Avoid outdoor activity if possible in the evening when mosquitoes are most active. Posted on 9/01 at 8:00 AM.
