Gun shot outside cinema complex; CG assists Vineyard Police, Dennis, Bourne crashes; Pole fire causes problems; windsurfer rescued in Eastham

Gun shot fired outside Dennis Rt. 134 cinema complex
DENNIS - Scary moments outside a crowded cinema complex Saturday night when a gun shot is reportedly fired. Dennis Police responded to multiple calls about the shot about 9 PM Saturday outside the Entertainment Cinemas at the Patriot Square plaza on Route 134.

According to a press release Police located a suspect a short time later  and then recovered  a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun with 5 rounds still in it behind the movie house. Luckily despite many people coming and going from movies at the time no one was injured. The suspect is a 15-year old juvenile from Yarmouth who is not being identified because of his age. He is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon-firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying ammunition, discharging a weapon within 500 feet of an occupied building and possession of brass knuckles. Detectives believe they know who the suspect was firing at but are still trying to figure out a motive. Officer injured, Coast Guard Falcon Jet assists Vineyard
An Air Station Cape Cod HU-25 Falcon jet aircrew completed two hospital to hospital patient transfers over the weekend to assist Boston MedFlight, which could not fly due to heavy weather conditions. Coast Guard First District received a call at 11:20 p.m. Saturday from Martha's Vineyard Hospital requesting a transfer of a 65-year-old female who was in need of immediate medical assistance to Cape Cod Hospital.  The aircrew completed the patient transfer at 2 a.m. 

Coast Guard First District received a second call at 3:47 a.m. Sunday from Martha's Vineyard Hospital  requesting the transport of a 21-year-old male police officer to Logan Airport.  The police officer sustained serious head trauma during the pursuit of a suspect. The aircrew arrived to the airport at 5:50 a.m., where an awaiting EMS transported the patient to Boston Mass General Hospital. The good news is 21-year old Officer Matthew Gebo was treated at MGH and released the next day. State Police are investigating the crash. 

Driver extricated from Dennis crash, charged with OUI
DENNIS - One person was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with non life-threatening injuries after their SUV crashed into a tree in Dennis. The crash occurred on Great Western Road about 3 AM Monday. Firefighters were able to quickly extricate the driver 20-year old Katherine Sullivan of Brewster. Dennis Police say she had been in an earlier crash on Depot Road. Police reportedly determined that because her front license plate was still at the scene. They accompanied Sullivan in the ambulance and after she was treated she was charged with operating under the influence and speeding. She will also be cited for leaving the scene of an accident, marked lanes violation and operating to endanger. Posted on 9/04 at 3:30 AM; updated on 9/04 at 12:00 PM.

Car narrowly misses plunging into canal
BOURNE - A driver escapes injury after their vehicle goes over an embankment and stops just short of the Cape Cod Canal. It happened just after midnight Monday morning on Savary Avenue on the mainland side of the canal. Bourne Police are investigating the crash. Posted on 9/04 at 1:00 AM.

Utility pole fire causes big problems
DENNIS - A fire burned off the top of a utility pole late Sunday morning causing a myriad of problems. Power disruptions were reported in both Harwich and Dennis. The Eagle Pond Nursing Home on Love Lane in Dennis was forced to switch to emergency power. A main feeder line of the pole reportedly crossed over Route 6 and state police were concerned for a time it could come down across the highway. NStar crews were investigating the cause of the fire and making repairs. Further details were not immediately available. Posted on 9/03 at 2:30 PM.

Windsurfer rescued off Eastham
EASTHAM - Rescuers brought a Connecticut man back to shore after Saturday's strong east winds blew him and his windsurfer into Cape Cod Bay off First Encounter Beach. The man was able to grab onto a buoy until rescuers arrived. He was wearing a wet suit and did not require treatment once back on shore. Posted on 9/03 at 2:30 PM.
