Violent home invasion reported in Dennis
DENNIS
- Police are investigating a reported violent home invasion where gun shots were fired and one person was apparently stabbed. Dennis Police tell Cape Wide News that at approximately 6:30 AM Friday morning they responded to a 911 call from a citizen living on Pond St. in West Dennis. Upon their arrival, officers interviewed a witness to an incident which occurred at 10 Bayleaf Lane in West Dennis.

Following an initial investigation police learned that the witness had been visiting the residence at 10 Bayleaf Lane where 4 other subjects were present inside the residence. The witness alleged as one of the subjects was leaving the residence a male suspect, armed with a semi-automatic handgun, forced entry into the residence, confronting the occupants. A struggle ensued between two of the occupants and the intruder, in which several shots were fired by him at the occupants. It is unknown if any of the occupants of the residence was injured as a result. The witness related that they had escaped the residence, during this time, by climbing out a bathroom window and then hid in nearby woods until daylight when he began knocking on doors of nearby houses until he was let in by the reporting person.

At approximately 7:43 AM Barnstable Police notified the Dennis Police that an individual had just walked into Cape Cod Hospital suffering from an apparent stab wound to the face. This individual was treated by hospital staff and received more than 30 stitches to close a 4 inch wound to his face. The subject also had several smaller wounds on his hands and right wrist. The subject was released, following treatment, later in the morning. Further investigation lead Dennis Police to seek an arrest warrant for this individual identified as 24-year old David J. Fitzpatrick of Hyannis charging him with armed home invasion, and assault with a dangerous weapon. Mr. Fitzpatrick is presently being held on cash bail on unrelated charges initiated by the Barnstable Police.

Dennis Police also recovered a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun in the area of Bayleaf Lane At this time police have not located the remaining four occupants, who were in the residence at the time of the attack. The investigation is continuing by Dennis Police assisted by Barnstable Police and personnel from the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Posted on 1/26 at 8:30 PM.

90 days? That's rather sickening. I'm so disgusted with the court system. Why not just make killing or maiming someone with your car legal and spare everybody the bs? It's not like there are ever any real consequences for it anyway, except for the victims.
