Firefighter's son saves friend through ice, incident prompts warning
SANDWICH -
Quick thinking by the son of Sandwich Fire Lt. David Boles helped save his friend and authorities hope the ordeal serves as a wake-up call for people tempted to go on icy ponds that despite the frigid weather are not safe. The Times reports 16-year old Mark Bole and his friend 16-year old Mark Harrington were getting ready to play hockey on Shawme Pond in Sandwich about 2:3o Monday when Harrington suddenly broke through the ice. According to the Times Mark Bole after carefully getting close to the hole used his hockey stick to bang on the ice to guide Harrington back to the hole. Officials say he was in the water for less than a minute. He was treated and later released at Cape Cod Hospital.

Police arrest driver after chase
DENNIS
- Police arrested a Harwich man who allegedly led them on a chase through two towns Sunday morning. According to Dennis Police At approximately 9:05 AM while on routine patrol Patrolman Richard Troy observed a 2000 blue Dodge Dakota pick-up traveling westbound on Lower County Rd. in West Dennis at a speed greater than the posted 25 MPH speed limit for this area and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle.

After stopping the vehicle, a short distance from where it was first observed, the operator later identified as 23-year old Neil Angiolilo reportedly drove off as the officer began to exit his cruiser. Police say the suspect vehicle turned westbound onto Route 28 entering Yarmouth, where it stopped at the intersection of Route 28 and Old Main St., at which time the operator refused to obey the officer's instructions to turn off the vehicle and again drove off westbound on Route 28. The operator then pulled into the parking lot of the South Yarmouth Post Office, located at the intersection of Route 28 and Forest Rd., and was taken into custody. Mr. Angiolilo was charged with Speeding, Failure to Stop for a Police Officer and Operating to Endanger. He was due to be arraigned in Orleans District Court on Monday. Posted on 2/05 at 11:30 AM.

Falling through the same ice that another local newspaper had on the cover last Friday...

There was no indication then that the ice wasn't safe.

Glad the boy kept his head and was able to help.
