Bus crash; Suspect sought after drugs, firearms seized; Overturned car prompts search

WEST BARNSTABLE - Tragedy was adverted after a crash in West Barnstable about 6:15 PM Friday. A tractor trailer, school bus and a pickup were involved in a collision on Route 132 by the Burger King. Our source reports the school bus was from Provincetown Public Schools. Approximately 30 students were on the bus, but fortunately none of them nor any of the drivers were injured. Falmouth Police seek suspect after drugs, guns seized
FALMOUTH - Falmouth Police are seeking the public's help in locating a local man they consider to be dangerous. Police say earlier today detectives and agents from the FBI met to execute a search warrant at 9 Highwood Lane in the Ballymeade Estates in East Falmouth. While executing that warrant some 53 pounds of marijuana along with assorted firearms, ammunition, cocaine and manufacturing equipment for distributing marijuana were  seized.

An arrest warrant was issued for 51-year old Marc Mardirosian of East Falmouth charging him with trafficking in marijuana and possession of firearms without a permit. Falmouth Police consider him to be a public safety threat. Overturned vehicle prompts search for driver
YARMOUTH -  An overturned vehicle led to a frantic search for the driver who apparently fled after the crash. Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers Kevin P. McIsaac and Sean Brewer along with K9 Patrol Officer Marc K. Thibeault and Patrol Sergeant Thomas Hennessey responding to a citizen report located a green 2001 Toyota Camry severely damaged and on its roof in the front yard of 414 Long Pond Drive about 6 AM.

No one was in the vehicle and an on-scene investigation indicated that the operator had fled. K9 Patrol Officer Thibeault conducted an initial investigation, which indicated that the Camry had been traveling east on Long Pond Drive at a high rate of speed-left the roadway-struck a fence-a tree-and rolled over. Officer Thibeault also located a neighbor who had heard a loud crash at 4:00 AM but did not report it. A check of the vehicle registration determined the owner, which led to the identity of the operator 23-year old Michael Vera of South Yarmouth.

At daybreak, an extensive search of the area was conducted by the Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments, which also included the nearby Long Pond. Fearing the operator may have wandered off and fallen through the ice divers were summoned to check the pond (pictured). A State Police helicopter also reportedly conducted an aerial search for the operator.

Meanwhile Yarmouth Police met with the father and grandparents of the suspect who advised them that the suspect had not returned to his home. At approximately 9:30 AM-the Dennis Police Department-based on information provided by the Yarmouth Police Department-located the operator at the home of a friend in Dennis. Mr. Vera reportedly denied that he was the operator but will be issued a citation and will be facing criminal charges in the Barnstable District Court for operating to endanger, leaving the scene of an accident and speeding.
