Dennis crash; Emergency landing at Otis Base; Falmouth crash; East Falmouth home burns

Dennis Police investigate car vs pole
DENNNIS - Dennis Police are investigating the cause of this car vs pole crash Wednesday afternoon. It happened around 3 PM on South Main Street near the town hall.

The driver was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The car suffered heavy damage but the pole appeared intact and no power failures were reported.

Plane makes emergency landing at Otis Base
OTIS ANG BASE - An F-15 jet made an emergency landing at the Otis Base shortly before 3 PM Wednesday. Fire/Rescue units on the base were standing by on side of the runway as the plane came in after reportedly experiencing a hydraulic problem. There were no reports of injuries or damage. Meanwhile, an Island Air Cessna 402 turned around shortly after taking off from  Nantucket for Hyannis about 8:15 AM Wednesday. The pilot reported one of the engines would not operate at full power so as a precaution he returned to Nantucket Airport. Serious crash in Falmouth
FALMOUTH - Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life for over 30 minutes to free a driver after a serious crash in Falmouth. The crash happened about 6:45 AM Wednesday on the Waquoit Highway section of Route 28 between Martin Road and Red Brook Road when a pickup struck a utility pole. Rescuers called for a Medflight helicopter but it was unavailable due to weather so the victim was taken to Falmouth Hospital. The injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening. Falmouth Police are investigating and will be looking to see if the wet and/or possibly icy roads were a factor in the crash. 

Fire guts Famouth house
FALMOUTH - Fire gutted a vacant home in East Falmouth early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the house on Prince Henry Drive near Old Barnstable Road about 3:40 AM to find flames shooting from the building. 

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Mutual aid from Mashpee and the Otis Base covered empty fire stations.

Off-road ride comes to fiery end in Wellfleet
WELLFLEET - A Tuesday evening ride off-road in Wellfleet for two young men came to an abrupt end when their pickup truck caught fire. Firefighters were drilling at the time but had to rely on their only four wheel drive forestry truck to reach the scene. They also lay a supply line by hand some distance to the scene. The truck was destroyed and nearby brush also caught fire before the blaze was contained. Nobody was injured in the incident. Fire Chief Dan Silverman says the fire appears to be the result of a mechanical fault with the vehicle.
