Edgartown Adopts Strict Regulations to Better Protect Sengekontacket Pond
sengekontacket_pond_400New health regulations aimed at reducing groundwater contamination will result in many homeowners in Ocean Heights and Arbutus Park paying tens of thousands of dollars for new water and septic systems.   
The regulations, finalized this week, will apply to all new developments and will also, over time, require modifications to hundreds of existing homes built on substandard lots.  Ultimately the changes will all but eliminate the private wells which have long served in the area.


High School Mulls Legal Action to Retain League Membership
After months of trying a more diplomatic approach, officials at the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School are now considering taking legal action to overturn a recent decision by the South Coast athletic conference to remove several Vineyard sports teams from its ranks.

Jamaican man arrested on cocaine trafficking charges
A Jamaican man was arrested Thursday on numerous drug charges, including cocaine trafficking, and was held in custody on $10,000 cash bail.  Gary Edwards, 27, of 6 Williams St., pleaded innocent Friday in Nantucket District Court to charges of cocaine trafficking, two counts of cocaine distribution, resisting arrest and committing a drug violation near a school.
