CG airlift Vineyard baby to Boston; Governor on Cape; 300 bags of heroin at traffic stop;
Battled 60mph winds to bring newborn back to Boston
BOSTON - The Coast Guard airlifted a medical team from Boston to Martha's Vineyard and then returned the team and a newborn in need of advanced medical assistance in Boston during today's storm.
An HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod picked up a neo-natal medical team from Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts-New England Medical around 10 a.m. and rushed the team to Martha's Vineyard Hospital. The aircrew returned the team and infant in their care to Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts-New England Medical about 12:30 p.m.
Due to sustained winds exceeding 60 mph, regular air ambulance services were unavailable. The Coast Guard provides this life saving service to Cape Cod's island residents when other emergency transportation means are not available. Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod completes about 40 transports each year from the two islands. Leave a comment

Swansea police nab 300 bags of heroin in 'Operation Crossover' traffic stop
"We have evidence that people from Cape Cod have been coming down as well"
SWANSEA – The Swansea Police Department, in collaboration with several other area police departments, arrested a Fall River man found in possession of heroin after being pulled over on Route 195 on Tuesday, April 3.
Members of the Southcoast Anti-Crime Team (SCAT) arrested 40-year-old Michael Beland of 670 Plymouth Ave., Fall River on charges of possession of heroin with intent to distribute and possession of heroin. Participating in the arrest was Swansea Police Detective Marc Haslam, along with officers from the Bristol County Sheriff's Office and the East Providence Police Department. Detective Haslam said that this latest arrest was part of a trend that seemed to stem from Providence, reaching an undetermined distance into Massachusetts.
"Basically we have determined that a great deal of the heroin for sale in the Southcoast area is coming from Providence," he said. "We have evidence that people from Cape Cod have been coming down as well..." Read he rest of the Swansea News story here. Leave a comment
