Lost body found in another's casket; Showdown over metal bats

BOSTON —  State police discovered that the body of a missing Cape Cod man misplaced by the state medical examiner’s office was mistakenly released to a funeral home and buried under the name of another person, the state Executive Office of Public Safety announced yesterday.

Gov. Deval L. Patrick placed the chief state medical examiner, Dr. Mark Flomenbaum, on a paid leave of absence Thursday after the medical examiner’s office reported the body was missing. He is suspended pending an investigation.

The body of Thomas E. Brissette was confused with the other body, although both were properly tagged and identification should have been checked during the release process, the announcement said.  When state police found the other body still in the state facility, they dug up the grave intended for that individual and in the coffin found Brissette’s body, officials said. They did not identify the other body...  Read the Telegram story here.  Watch the Yahoo video here.

Showdown over metal baseball bats
Cape League led the nation in change

Many baseball players, coaches and fans are convinced that bats made of aluminum or other metals outperform traditional wooden bats, sending balls screaming out of the park.  But do these hi-tech bats work so well that they pose a health hazard, crushing balls with such force that they can become lethal projectiles?

New York City believes so. In addition, conferences and leagues like the New York Collegiate Baseball League and the Great Lakes Valley Conference have stopped using metal bats.

And the Cape Cod League, which attracts some of the top collegiate players each summer, banned metal bats back in 1983....  Read this Ledger story here.

That's the same morgue where they found the bodies sharing drawers and stuff.

The scary part was that, when the M.E. showed up at the morgue... neither corpse was wearing pants, and the stereo was playing "Come Get To This" by Marvin Gaye.

Just two short comments:

On Item 1, Where's Jordan when you need her?

On Item 2, Metal baseball bats are for sissies who can't hit. It's about time they're all relegated to the dump--or better yet, saved for home defense.
