Brush/mulch fires a concern with dry conditions
CAPE COD - Officials are urging people to be extra cautious about fire outdoors with the continued dry conditions. The dryness combined with daily breezes have fanned a number of brush fires quickly. Firefighters in Falmouth and Mashpee both had to make quick work of brush fires in their towns. The Falmouth fire (right) was off Old Barnstable Road. Sources tell is construction debris was being illegally burned and sparks ignited the brush. The Mashpee blaze off Simon Narrows Road reportedly started with a campfire and spread through several yards before being doused .

Open burning season ended on May 1st. Additionally be extra careful about discarding cigarettes. There have been many instances of bark mulch near buildings catching fire from dropped cigarettes.

Another fire early Monday evening broke out in a remote area of Centerville off Nye Road and Lumbert Mill Road (right).

Firefighters had to use brush breakers to reach the fire along the high tension power lines. The cause is under investigation.

The people who own the CITGO station- Canal Fuel, of Bourne- have had 4 armed robberies in 2007 alone, and are still too cheap to install those panic buttons that every other oft-robbed place has. No cameras on the pumps or the sides of the building, either.

You don't want to work for Canal Fuel unless you are:

a) bulletproof

b) not averse to working in plate-mail type armor.

c) have family members who reeeeealy need to cash in on your life insurance policy.

On the way back to Worchester from Centerville Saturday night I took the 28 to 151 to 28 path to the Bourne Bridge. I pointed out to my wife the gas station in Cotuit that had been robbed and the burned down Cherrystones/The Farm. I guess the gas station got hit again. Hopefully the Barnstable Police track down the vermin and put them behind bars for a while. Archie Bunker had an idea for a trap door that would send criminals under New York City to the jails.

MOPO,

Perhaps I owe you an apology for misunderstanding the tone of your posts (all seem to have a bit of tounge in cheek)

umass...

These days the courts (locally) only issue "continued without a finding" rulings around here. the likelyhood of jail time is as probable as snow tomorrow afternoon.
