Barnstable Police probe graffiti outbreak

HYANNIS - Barnstable Police are investigating an outbreak of graffiti overnight. The most disturbing was the upside down cross with "666" found at the Calvary Baptist Church on Lincoln Road. "666" is often associated with Satan worship. Its the first time the church has been targeted and parishioners have no idea why. In addition vandalism was discovered in a Barnstable High School bathroom, the nearby Steve & Sue's Ice Cream and here at Brooks Pharmacy (right) all within a block of each other. Times: Soldier's widow injured in crash
Fallen tree blamed for series of three crashes
SANDWICH - A fallen tree was to blame for a weekend crash that injured four people including the widow of a soldier killed in Iraq the Cape Cod Times reported. About 2:30 AM Sunday morning a car driven by Randall Duarte was one of three that came upon the tree and crashed. Duarte was treated and released but his front seat passenger identified as Anastacia Fuller was taken to CCH with a broken pelvis. Fuller is seen here being comforted by Governor Deval Patrick at her husband Army Sgt. Alexander Fuller's funeral on February 7th. Two people were in the  back seat of the crashed car. Lindsay Pina was transferred to Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. A fourth occupant Christina Silva of Hyannis was treated and released at CCH. CWN photo by Frank Paparo. 

Gun call locks down Cotuit neighborhood

COTUIT - A Cotuit neighborhood was locked down for a time after Barnstable Police got more than they bargained for responding to a well being check. Late Tuesday afternoon police were called to a Hopewell Lane residence. When they arrived they discovered a man there and a gun lying on a table. Police quickly sealed off the neighborhood and told residents to stay inside their homes. A school bus approaching the area was stopped and held in a safe spot. Police were able to contact the man by phone and were able to take him into custody without incident diffusing what could have been a tragic incident. Photos by Frank Paparo.

Pedestrian struck in Falmouth
FALMOUTH - One person was taken to Falmouth Hospital after reportedly being struck by a car in Falmouth. It happened about 2:30 PM at County Road and Chester St. Falmouth Police are investigating. Further details were not immediately available.

Crash snarls traffic on Sagamore Bridge
BOURNE - A two vehicle crash slowed traffic to a crawl on the Sagamore Bridge. Four people including a mother and small child were being evaluated by rescuers. The mother and child were taken to Tobey Hospital in Wareham to be checked out. Ambulances from Bourne and Plymouth were called to the scene. None of the injuries appear serious. State Police are investigating and say a vehicle driven by 24-year old Jessica Stauble of Plymouth tried to make a u-turn at the base of the bridge and was struck by a SUV driven by Monica Houle of Hyannis. Houle and her children who were in car seats and likely protected by the size of the SUV were not seriously injured. Stauble will be cited for a marked lanes violation. Provincetown "big dig" to cause detours for several months
PROVINCETOWN - The beginning of phase 2 of Provincetown's sewer system upgrade started Monday and will continue for several months. The construction could be called the towns version of "the big dig". During the construction Bradford Street will be closed during the day in the vicinity of Shankpainter Road. First heading west and later east. Motorists are urged to avoid the area by using Conwell Street to get in and out of town and by using Commercial Street or the Route 6 highway to get east/west around the construction. All roads will be open and passable for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. Photo by Tim Caldwell.
