Boathouse burns; Hyannis crash; Dennis bicyclists hit; Yarmouth crashes; New county communications center

Boathouse burns in Falmouth
FALMOUTH - Firefighters were called to the scene of a structure fire in Falmouth about 5:50 PM. Reports say a boathouse was gutted by fire on Penzance Road in the Long Neck section of Woods Hole. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Two bicyclists struck by SUV in Dennis

DENNIS - Two bicyclists were injured when they were struck by an SUV around 4:30 PM Wednesday. The two were riding on the bike path along Old Bass River Road when the Jeep came out of Debbie Lane and collided with them.

31-year old Carrie Hassel of South Boston was reported thrown over the hood of the Jeep and was treated by Dennis rescue personnel and taken to Cape Cod Hospital by a Yarmouth ambulance with an arm injury.

The second bicyclist 29-year old Timothy Smith of Waltham was treated at the scene.

Dennis Police are investigating the crash and cited the driver 34-year old Karen Pineau of South Dennis for failing to use care in starting.

Two crashes stall afternoon commute on Station Avenue
YARMOUTH - Two crashes within minutes stalled the afternoon commute along Station Avenue in Yarmouth. About 3:15 PM a couple of cars collided at the Route 6 offramp. Then shortly after two other vehicles were in a rear end collision in traffic stopped from the first crash. None of the injuries appear life threatening. New county communications center goes on air
OTIS ANG BASE - The Barnstable County Sheriff's new communications center at the Otis Base went on the air today. It replaces the old cramped facility on the hill behind the county courthouses in Barnstable. The Sheriff's Department handles communications for the county as well as Orleans, Brewster, Barnstable, West Barnstable, Mashpee and Bourne Fire Departments and also answers 911 for several towns. In addition the center has ties to various state agencies and local utilities. The move will allow more Cape departments interested in regional dispatch to avail themselves of the service.
