New county communications center goes on air
OTIS ANG BAS
E - The Barnstable County Sheriff's new communications center at the Otis Base went on the air today. It replaces the old cramped facility on the hill behind the county courthouses in Barnstable. The Sheriff's Department handles communications for the county as well as Orleans, Brewster, Barnstable, West Barnstable, Mashpee and Bourne Fire Departments and also answers 911 for several towns. In addition the center has ties to various state agencies and local utilities. The move will allow more Cape departments interested in regional dispatch to avail themselves of the service.
