Say Good Bye to Lady Bird

Sad news to hear about the death of Lady Bird Johnson, widow of Lyndon Baines Johnson, our 36th president.  Born in 1912, she survived her husband by decades. Her memorial, besides being one of the first big time environmentalists and conservationists was to help her husband govern by being a warm and supportive presence close to his manic and extroverted ways.

Presidential biographer Doris Kearns Goodwin tells how the President would be raging on and on in his typical over-reactive manner and she would touch his knee and say, "Now Lyndon, you don't mean that do you?"  Johnson knew her two weeks when he proposed, she was a beautiful and classy lady who he needed to compliment his politician's bluster.  Say a prayer for Lady Bird.

About This Blog

This is a blog about the observations and events I witness on this sandy peninsula after several decades of working, thinking, feeling and writing about the quality of life here. My biases will no doubt show, I am neither conservative nor liberal and have a strong interest in public affairs, local politics, schools and religion.
