Search continues today for missing kayaker in Marstons Mills; Dennis; Yarmouth drug busts; Chatham fourth OUI

Local agencies amass in Marstons Mills this morning, only kayak found 

MARSTONS MILLS - Last night around 7:30 PM Barnstable PD and Centerville, Osterville, Marstons Mills (COMM) fire department got a call from a home at 48 Sawmill Road in the  Marstons Mills section of the Town of Barnstable of a missing person. The 24 year old man had reportedly been out kayaking on Middle Pond.

A search was started by the fire department and dogs from the sheriff's department Wednesday evening. They searched the lake for several hours and only found an overturned kayak.

The local police, fire, State Police chopper, State troopers and divers returned this morning and continued the search.

On right the family gives details to police as two police boats continue their search today. 

Late in the afternoon officials suspended operations again until Friday morning.

Speed leads to Dennis drug bust
DENNIS - Speeding led to the arrest of a Dennis man on drug charges. About 8:30 PM Wednesday Patrolman John Brady observed a 1995 Toyota Corolla traveling east on Mayfair Rd. in South Dennis at an excessive speed. Ptl. Brady subsequently stopped the vehicle and identified the operator as 17 year old James W. Williams of South Dennis. 

Further investigation revealed that Mr. Williams was operating the vehicle without being licensed and he was placed under arrest. Following his arrest the officer reportedly discovered a small amount of marijuana and four grams of cocaine on Mr. Williams' person. Mr. Williams was additionally charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Cocaine with intent to Distribute. 

Mr. Williams was released to state custody for a violation of the terms of his probation on a previous matter. Mr. Williams is scheduled to appear in Orleans District court to answer to the above charges. The drugs seized are estimated to be worth $500 on the street.

Chatham woman faces fourth OUI charge after crash
CHATHAM - A local woman was charged with her fourth operating under the influence  of alcohol (OUI) after a crash Wednesday afternoon that stalled beach traffic for over two hours. Police say 42-year old Rosemary Seaver struck a utility pole on Barn Hill Road forcing the closure of the road until NStar could clear live wires from her vehicle and the snapped pole from the roadway. In addition to OUI she was charged with operating with a revoked license, operating to endanger and marked lanes violation. Seaver and a passenger 40-year old Douglas Hastback of Chatham were treated for minor injuries at Cape Cod Hospital. Power in the area was out for several hours.

Inspection sticker leads to drug bust
YARMOUTH - An expired inspection sticker led to two men being arrested for drug violations. About 2:45 PM Wednesday Patrol Investigator Scott Lundegren and his partner Patrol Officer Justin Haire-observed a 1992 Chevrolet K1500 SUV traveling east on Route 28 with an expired safety inspection sticker. 

The Patrol Officers stopped the vehicle and say they observed an open bottle of beer on the floor of the vehicle.  Both subjects in the vehicle stated that they had been drinking but that they were both over the age of 21 and not intoxicated. 

As the operator 29-year old Kedrick K. Edwards of Hyannis exited the vehicle-a clear plastic bag of marijuana was observed on his front seat by police.  A check of the passenger 25-year old Roderick T. Brown of Memphis, TN revealed several individually packaged crack cocaine rocks and pills in a baggie in his pants pocket. A field test of the drugs by the use of a narcotics test kit confirmed the presence of cocaine-marijuana-and opiates. All drugs were seized as evidence along with $140 cash. 

Kedrick was arrested for possession of an open container of alcohol and possession of Class D. Brown was charged with possession of Class A with intent to distribute and possession of Class B with intent to distribute. Both subjects were transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters and subsequently transferred to the Barnstable District Court for arraignment. Mugshots furnished by YPD.
