Man pleads guilty to MV homicide; Bourne MC crash; CVS employees sickened

Man seriously injured at House of Correction
BOURNE - A man was seriously injured at the House of Correction at the  Otis base Wednesday evening. An inmate apparently slashed himself with a disposable razor. The victim was taken to Falmouth Hospital and reportedly later flown to Boston Medical Center.
 
Rep. Cleon Turner proposes renaming Rt 6 interchange for injured trooper
YARMOUTH - Mass State Rep. Cleon Turner has suggested naming the interchange off Exit 7 on the westbound side of Route 6 the "State Trooper Ellen Engelhardt Interchange."  "From all I'm told, she did a great job there, and this seems a fitting tribute," Turner said. "There aren't a lot of interchanges named after people. Bridges, yes, but naming an interchange is more unusual."   See the complete report here. 
 
Vehicles wind up in water in Mashpee, Chatham
CHATHAM - New overnight: it was apparently not a good night to launch boats. Vehicles wound up in the water in both Mashpee and Chatham. The Mashpee incident happened around 2 AM. The Chatham incident happened about 4:45 AM at Ryder's Cove.  No one was injured in either incident. Further details were not immediately available.
 
Two injured in motorcycle crash
BOURNE - Two people were injured when their motorcycle crashed in Bourne about 8 PM Wednesday. It happened by the Scusset Beach Market on Meetinghouse Road. The two suffered what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. Bourne Police are investigating.

Man pleads guilty to MV homicide charges

sandmvguilty_450SANDWICH - 50-year old Christopher Parker pleaded guilty to motor vehicle homicide charges in Barnstable District Court Wednesday. He was charged with causing the crash that killed 63-year old Diane Carhart of Forestdale on Route 130 last March 5th (click to read original story). Prosecutors said Parker was adjusting his radio when his Honda slammed into the back of Carhart's Geo Tracker. The impact sent the Tracker crashing into an NStar pickup truck. Parker was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail. 6 months of that sentence will be suspended and he will be on two years probation. Parker must also serve 10 days for operating with a suspended license. 

CVS employees sickened in Orleans
ORLEANS - Three CVS employees were over come by fumes in the store on Route 6A Wednesday. Officials believe roofers were working with tar when the fumes were sucked in by the building's ventilation system. One employee was taken to CCH another treated at the scene. As a precaution the store was closed for the day.

Woman found dead in Yarmouth motel
YARMOUTH - A woman was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the Yankee Village Motel around 9:30 AM Tuesday morning. The woman is identified as 31-year old Daniella Falzone of Hyannis. Yarmouth Police along with State Police detectives are investigating the death. Anyone with information is asked to contact Yarmouth Det. Eric H. Nuss at (508) 775-0445 X132.

Yarmouth Police to host care packages for marines
YARMOUTH - On Sunday, July 29, 2007 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM-Yarmouth Police Headquarters will serve as the drop off point for donations in support of our local United States Marines fighting in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Nicole Warren of Yarmouthport is spearheading this special community support fundraiser.  Nicole is a 2006 graduate of Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School and the former classmate of many Dennis and Yarmouth residents who are serving in the United States Marine Corps.

All citizens are urged to show their support for our local young men and women by donating any of the following items at Yarmouth Police Headquarters:

  • Video and other Recreational Games
  • Nutritious Snacks

WTF? You get two years in jail if you are at fault in a car accident? This sounds crazy. I guess the guy didn't have a good enough lawyer. I'm sorry he messed up and I'm sorry the woman died, but it wasn't like he MEANT to kill her or was drunk, or am I missing something?

I was going to comment but the photo is over 1/2 of the story so I can't read the whole thing. But just in general if he had his eyes on the road (which I've heard through the grapevine is the way you are supposed to drive) she would not have had an accident that day and would have lived a - hopefully - long and full life. It was soooooo preventable it's sickening.....JMO

Are you talking about the photo of the accident from March? what browswe are you using...the photo seems fine here on both IE and firefox...

Do you think 2 years is too extreme? Unless you lose somebody close to you by the hands of a character like this, you may not agree.

I feel sympathy for both families involved.

Nicole what you are doing is commendable. Those care packages mean more then people know to the men who are serving for who? For US! I think everyone should stop and think about that for a minuet. These people are not drafted, they chose to serve out country in a time of war and we should never loose sight of that. I am not just saying that because someone I care about is on that list (PP). I am saying that because it is true. Keep doing what you're doing Nicole because girl its working.
