Mashpee Wampanoag leader stepping aside
Acknowledges conviction, lies,
conviction for cocaine possession
Marshall said yesterday that he joined the Marines in September 1968, several months after the historic 77-day battle between US forces and the North Vietnamese had ended. Asked whether he was at Khe Sahn, Marshall said: "No, not for the siege."

Glenn Marshall, the Mashpee Wampanoag leader who secured federal recognition for the tribe and presided over its push to build a $1 billion casino in Massachusetts, stepped aside yesterday after acknowledging that he was a convicted rapist and that he had lied to Congress about his military service during the Vietnam War.

In an interview with the Globe, Marshall, 57, wept as he apologized for repeatedly lying about his past and announced that he was temporarily handing over his responsibilities as chairman of the tribe council to his vice chairman, Shawn Hendricks, "so I can deal with the mental and physical issues I'm facing."

"It's an apology to my family, tribe, and the Commonwealth," said Marshall, sobbing and wiping tears with a paper napkin. "I could only ask that they could forgive me, because I'm not a bad person." ...Marshall said he intended to resume his duties as chairman but would not say when...  Globe

Glenn Marshall, Cape tribe leader steps down after exposure
“I realize I have my own demons that I need to deal with" - Marshall

Glenn Marshal crowed last week in the New London Day. "The waterpark is for me..."
A Cape Cod Indian tribe leader who has lobbied Beacon Hill lawmakers and Middleboro officials to support a tribal casino has stepped down as reports surfaced that he served jail time for rape and lied about his military service.

Glenn Marshall, who has been the tribe’s point man and public face during the high-profile casino debate, admitted he distorted his military record and said he’s taking a leave so he can “properly deal with the mental and physical issues I am facing.”

“I am proud of my service in the Vietnam War and stand by the service I provided for my country during that horrific period of history,” Marshall said in a statement.  ... Boston Herald

Wampanoag tribe leader steps down after rape conviction revealed;
Casino plan still moves forward

I realize I have my own demons that I need to deal with... so I can properly deal with the mental and physical issues I'm facing. In the wake of reports of a rape conviction and distorting his military service, Wampanoag leader Glenn Marshall has stepped down temporarily as tribal council chairman, saying he has his “own demons” to deal with.

Vice-Chairman Shawn W. Hendricks Sr. now will take control of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Council. The tribe is still moving ahead with plans to put a Mohegan Sun-type casino complex in Middleboro after a special town meeting there approved an agreement last month with the tribe.  “During Glenn's absence, business for the tribe will continue,” Hendricks said Friday. “Next week we will file an application to take land into trust in Mashpee and in Middleboro.”  Brockton Enterprise

Wow, that was so fast it makes me think this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Glenn, if you think this will stop the media from digging, especially into anything related to the tribal money you're in charge of, think again.

August is almost over, school is starting, everyone will be finishing their vacations soon, and reporters from all over New England will have nothing better to do than to dig where the digging is good, right here in Mashpee.

Wamps, put your heads together and find a decent, honorable, and intelligent man or woman to lead your tribe, and fast.

Without a doubt, Marshall was the single most obnoxious and arrogant person I ever dealt with while working as a reporter at the Cape Cod Times, in the one and only time I spoke to him. The tribe deserves far better.

All I want to know is when is his federal trial under the "stolen valor act of 2005"? He faces large fines and jail time for false claims of purple hearts and other citations. Would somebody please report this guy to the Federal authorities? I'm freekin' serious!! This is a serious federal crime.

Marshall didn't step down from ANYTHING, buy the way people. He's still chairman. He'll just appear in public less, etc. Zero consequences so far for this shyster. Remember, lying like he did about his medals is a Federal crime, covered by The Stolen Valor Act of 2005. Here is the FBI's response to my tip to them yesterday:

..."Dear M

THIS IS NOT AN AUTOMATED RESPONSE

Thank you for your submission to the FBI Internet Tip Line. After evaluating your information it is determined that you should contact your local police department/ law enforcement agency. If you need any further assistance you can contact your local FBI office at. Your information is being evaluated at this time by one of our Agents, and will be forwarded to the appropriate FBI component."...

It sort of sounds like they are passing the buck.
Who should prosecute Marshall, Michael O'Keefe? That's a joke!

I am reliably informed that Glenn Marshall's case has been referred to the FBI by people who are part of a national veterans' network of fraud-busters. the FBI answers their phone calls and takes action on the referrals. So far Glenn is looking at potentially six years (5 purple hearts and the silver star @ 1 year apiece_.

From the Boston Herald. " Doug Sterner, a Colorado-based Vietnam veteran who monitors cases of “stolen valor,” said he has reported Marshall to the FBI."

Wally, your headline got me all excited about a conviction of another sort; alas, no text to follow besides the convicted rape-liar bit, which of course is bad....

and he is no doubt bad...it's right there for the world to see...he probably couldn't practice medicine at Cape Cod Hospital....three times, or was it two times she shot him? Why is the Globne of all things the only paper to report three, a fascinating place of departure for DA O'Keefe and his brother of the bar Kevin Reddington, whose stories differed only in that one, shall we say material aspect?
And what was it she said, I didn't mean for it to end this way, sweetie, but...ah...om...ah...go in pieces? Holy cannoli, Batman, if anyone still believes any shred of this official version of the truth -- whichever one they choose to throw out there-- we are beyond the bend as a people....
