11 arrested in outer Cape drug sweep; Arrest follows overdose in Yarmouth; Sandwich crashes; Centerville MV assault

11 arrested in outer Cape drug raids
TRURO - 11 people were arrested for alleged narcotic violations in a series of drug raids on the outer Cape Saturday. At approximately 5 AM Saturday, Truro and Provincetown police, assisted by the Barnstable County Sheriff's Department and SWAT team of the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council, executed a search warrant at 8A Highland Road in North Truro.  Arrested were:   

1. Mark J. Joiner of North Truro, charged with distributing a controlled substance and trafficking
2. Courtney L. Sullivan of Dennis, charged with possession of a controlled substance and trafficking
3. Darryl C. White of North Truro, charged with possession of a controlled substance and trafficking
4. Diveron N. Aanderson of Plymouth, charged with distributing a controlled substance and trafficking
5. Robert W. McWilliams of North Truro, charged with distributing a controlled substance and trafficking

Seized in the search were more than 28 grams of cocaine, $4,000 in cash and a small amount of marijuana, police said.

Simultaneously, police working in two teams served four additional arrest warrants in Provincetown and Truro.  Arrested were:

1. Tariq S. Hassan of Provincetown, charged with charged with distributing a controlled substance
2. Jeremiah C. Braley of Provincetown, charged with charged with distributing a controlled substance
3. Stephen J. Martinez of Provincetown, charged with charged with distributing a controlled substance
4. Michael A. Telfer of Truro, charged with charged with distributing a controlled substance

Also, Angel Collazo of Truro, charged with distributing a controlled substance, turned himself in and was arrested at the Truro police station.

Later Saturday, Truro and Orleans police arrested Ricardo Cora Jr. of Bronx, N.Y., in the parking lot of a Wendy's fast-food restaurant at 5:30 PM and charged him with possession of a controlled substance and trafficking.  Cora was in possession of approximately 35 grams of cocaine and $1,300 in cash, police said.

The arrests were the result of a six-month investigation by Truro and Provincetown police.

Two escape serious injury in Bourne rollover crash
BOURNE - Two people were lucky to escape with only minor injuries after their vehicle crashed into the woods and rolled over early Saturday morning. It happened about 1:30 a.m. on the MacArthur Boulevard section of Route 28 near Meetinghouse Road. The two were taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Drug Overdose Leads to Multi-Warrant Arrest
YARMOUTH - Yarmouth police and firefighters responded to 28 Prospect Ave. in West Yarmouth at 1 PM Saturday for a report of an unconscious man suffering from heroin use. Yarmouth Police Detective Russell Giammarco, Officers Richard White and Gordon Gibbons, and Sgt. Gerard Britt arrived at the residence and found that the subject had fled on foot prior to their arrival.

During their search for the man, police were advised that the suspect, 28-year old Mark C. Sprague of West Yarmouth, was wanted on three arrest warrants. After checking several locations, Sprague was found hiding under a couch in the living room of a neighbor's home.

Sprague was arrested and taken to police headquarters. He remains in custody and will be transported to the Barnstable District Court on Monday for arraignment. (Mugshot furnished by police)

Engine malfunction on plane at Hyannis airport
HYANNIS - A Cessna 402 aircraft experienced engine trouble at Barnstable Municipal Airport about 4:10 PM Saturday after a turbocharger apparently blew. No injuries were reported and the airport was closed briefly after the incident occurred. It could not be immediately determined which airline was involved.

Child struck; motorcyclist crashes in Sandwich
SANDWICH - Two serious crashes kept Sandwich rescuers busy Saturday afternoon, the first at Freedom and Deer Hollow Raod where a 10-year old boy was struck in the street by a pickup truck. The child was taken to the Forestdale School and then Medflighted to a Boston hospital. The driver stayed at the scene and was interviewed by police. No word if any charges will be filed. A short time later a motorcyclist collided with a car on Route 130 near the car wash, injuring the cyclist. Further details were not immediately available.

Crash leads to alleged assault

     ^{Barnstable Police are investigating an alleged assault with a vehicle in Centerville.}
CENTERVILLE - Barnstable police and Centerville, Osterville, Marstons Mills firefighters responded to a 911 call of a crash at 595 Bay Lane in Centerville at 1 PM Saturday.

 When they arrived they found that a resident at the house had allegedly been assaulted with an automobile. The person driving the car had left the scene and the victim was treated by rescue personnel and taken to Cape Cod Hospital. Police spoke with family members of the injured person and went to the hospital to speak with the victim. The cause of the incident remains uncertain. (Story and photos by Frank Paparo)
