Kayaker safe after lost in fog; Crew member injured on tall ship; Woman's arm gets stuck in library depository; Barnstable rollover crash

Kayaker found after getting lost in fog
EASTHAM
- Eastham and Orleans rescuers were called out about 7:50 PM Monday after learning of a kayaker disoriented in heavy fog in Nauset Inlet off the ocean side of the two towns.

At right, the Orleans Harbormaster boat is seen heading out in the dark and foggy conditions. Rescuers used a combination of tracking the cell phone signal, shining bright lights and sounding horns to locate the kayaker about 9:30 PM. The rescue boats escorted the person into the boat landing behind the Goose Hummock store where he was evaluated by rescue and reunited with relatives.

Crew member injured aboard tall ship in Provincetown
PROVINCETOWN
- A crew member aboard the tall ship Spirit of Massachusetts was injured in a shipboard accident around 4 PM Monday. The victim apparently slipped on rigging, causing a large gash in his leg.

The schooner was in Provincetown for Sunday's Great Schooner Regatta. Reports from the scene say other crewmembers provided excellent first aid until EMTs arrived and also assisted them by using a boatswain chair to get the man off the boat onto Macmillan Wharf, where he was transported to Cape Cod Hospital.

Woman's arm gets stuck in library depository
HYANNIS
- An unusual rescue for Hyannis firefighters late Monday morning.

A woman was returning videos to the Hyannis Public Library when her arm somehow got stuck in the depository. The library was closed at the time.

Rescuers were able to free the woman after applying lubricant to the arm.

She suffered scrapes but was otherwise uninjured.

Jeep rolls over after hitting pole in Barnstable

A jeep rolled over after hitting  a pole behind the Home Depot store.
BARNSTABLE - A dramatic scene in Barnstable when a Jeep crashes behind the Home Depot at the Southwind Plaza off Independence Drive.

The Jeep was on the shortcut to the Festival Plaza when it apparently struck the pole.

The impact tore a wheel off the vehicle and caused it to roll on its side.

The driver was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation.

She was probably returning books from the "FILL IN THE BLANK for DUMMIES" genre. Driver behind Home Depot probably thought was looking for the Drive Up window. What a freak!

You'd think today that kids would practice safe book returning. If you're going to stick a limb that far down the book shoot, you better be well lubed. When I was young, we opened the door and they fell to the bottom all by themselves.... I think it was gravity!

Buzz - your comment made me laugh - We used to shoot them down as hard as we could to make the loudest noise :) It didn't take much to amuse some of us :)

Nee Nee,

Finally, the library got smart and put a pillow at the end of the shoot. It was good while it lasted.
