Orlean Selectmen reopen Wind Turbine issue

Supporters of renewable energy turn out in force

By Liz Argo for capecodtoday

W

ednesday night, September 19th, at the Orleans SelectBoard meeting, members of the Orleans community and representatives from the Committee to Save Orleans Wind filled the room.

Eight testimonies were heard clearly demonstrating the Orleans residents’ desire to review the surprise vote made on Sept. 12.  The vote on Sept. 12 shocked Orleans when the Board of Water Commissioners rejected two 1.56-megawatt turbines proposed for the Orleans watershed.

Board commended, but review process reopened

While commending water commissioners for the massive effort they have made to date on this project, selectmen responded to the requests of local residents by voting for water commissioners to reopen the review process. Selectmen will promote the development of a roundtable discovery process at which all parties will sit. At this roundtable opportunity, all current impasses to the Orleans Wind Turbine project will hope to be aired and, if possible, resolved.

I too was there as discussion went round & round last night. I am happy to say that the Orleans turbines live to spin another day.

I believe we could see success with enough cooperation & reassurances from both sides. With additional state financing & management aid, this long process can yield an actual working project. (Instead of all the theoretical ones we've been hearing about)

Though the discussion process, the SelectBoard commended the work of the Orleans Board of Water Commissioners. In coming to understand how scary such a new process can be, I believe they have valid concerns about the process. I also believe there are enough people at the right places, not to mention overwhelming public support to make local wind viable.
No one thinks this is a done deal, the commissioners may even turn down the request. I would be truly saddened if this invitation by so many hopeful people who want to see renewables work were turned down.
The fight is over, let the cooperation begin.

Select-bored sounds like an inevitable consequence of being gender-neutral…

I suppose if we remove all the distinctions, it would get a little vanilla.
